A boxer named Oscar De La Hoya set the "drained" trend. Since his fight with Pac almost every big fight weigh in pictures/videos someone is labeled "drained" it is so ANNOYING! I know the term has been around forever but it's been exaggerated since DLH.

drained is the term given to a boxer who has previously made 152 against matthew hatton in 2011?, made 153 n a half against trout, but is able to make 152 again against mayweather because everyone hates mayweather and any little ammunition you can acquire to use against him is justifiable because well that's how it works. . . Also totally disregarding the fact that on fight night he'd come in 20 pounds heavier.

how they get there depends on the fighter. rios hops in a sauna to lose the last of his weight, in addition to starving himself and limiting his intake of water.

alvarez isn't far off the weight with a week before the fight. he'll skip a few meals in the days leading into the fight and limit his water intake and he should be fine.

he's young, and it's 2 lbs. he was 153.5 against trout, and i thnk he was wearing boxer shorts.

alvarez won't be drained at all if i had to guess, but we'll only know when he's in the ring, and we'll have a good idea when he weighs in. if he's off on the first try on the scales we will probably know that he's unhealthy.

when i see a fighter with markedly ashen or dry looking skin, a sunken face, ribs showing almost no fat, a ****** in stomach, then i know he had serious issues making weight.

to answer your question, a weight drained fighter is not only lacking in the calories to function properly, most importantly he has dried out. he's dehydrated. it really is amazing that these guys are able to put the weight on in water and food, and be healthy in 30 hours, but they often are. most of the world class fighters, at least the american ones, are doing this today. as long as you're not effected it's a great way to get in there with a five lb weight advantage.

expet alvarez to get back to at least 165 lbs by fight night.

Leonard Ellerbe on Cotto vs Pacquiao:

"He was a dead man walking when he went into the ring," Ellerbe said. "The casual fan doesn't know what difference one or two pounds can make when a fighter is already down to weight. Fighters know."

I think Donny Lalonde set the benchmark.
