    Pretty sure the larger the glove, the bigger the punch resistance, thus, the continued amount of punches that can be landed and THAT would accumulate some type of damage.

    The OP's logic is sound. Regardless of what the purpose of gloves was, initially, softening the impact of a blow, or increasing the blows landing radius (as gloves do, by being bigger than the first) definitely adds another element of danger t othe game.
