Sergio Martinez: "I'll return in April or May, Argentina likely."

That's his mandatory anyway. It seems like he's trying to end his career without fighting him though. Not sure how he'll get away with it unless he pays Rubio some step aside money.Comment

I doubt there's gonna be many guys lining up to fight him in Argentina. The ideal would be for Mora to beat Quillin and then fight Martinez in a unification bout.Comment

great in argy
the whole world saw martinez lose his last fight, it was clear as day, he was out boxed and clearly lost, but he got a home town gift, hell the ref even refused to count a clear knockdown on martinez
anyone going out to argetina should be aware they have no chance of winning, even if they dominate the fight and score knockdown, you will need to knock martinez out cold before the 12th to win, you will not get a decision
a real man would fight murray in us or ok, martinez knows he lost in his heart, thats why no rematch happenedComment

Wouldn't have thought it'd be a problem since he's been fighting at LMW for a few years now, Sergio's a small middleweight anyway and could also go down.
In fact the question is whether or not they'd be fighting for Maravillas belt. It would be a bit farcical to do so IMO, unless Cotto's planning to move up which seems unlikely to say the least.
In addition, while Sergio's right that Cotto remains a bigger draw than GGG, I've a feeling HBO might be willing to take a financial hit on the purse to give Golovkin the shot a lineal.
That said, I was kinda assuming Maravilla had 2 fights left, a tune-up, then a big money cash out. This makes possible the option of a Cotto fight (without the belt on the line)at 154 followed by a cash out vs GGG, which is almost certain to be a bigger fight on that timeline - assuming Gena keeps fighting and winning. Martinez can't afford to lose the lineal, though, if he wants the best payday 'gainst GGG.Comment

I'm not a big rugby fan and didn't watch the Pumas - All Blacks, but I know they played well, although they eventually lost 28-13.Last edited by FromBA; 09-07-2013, 12:31 PM.Comment

Anyone who wants to fight him will have to fight him Argentina because they'll be leaving a a ton of money on the table. Who has the leverage to say no? Only exception would be PPV fights like Cotto/Chavez/Canelo, which obviously wouldn't take place in Argentina.Comment

We needed ten police cars and motor bikes to escort us from the hotel to the venue, the Estadio Jose Amalfitani, which is where the football team Velez Sarsfield play... and where 40,000 Argentinians were baying for blood.
Never in my whole life have I felt so much excitement and fear at the same time. The crowd were fighting to get towards us, making death signs to us, spitting, throwing drinks. We were lucky that Neil Marsh had asked the security staff from the hotel who had been deputised to follow us to walk us to the ring. If they hadn't been around us, Martin might not have made it to the ring.
To be honest, if he'd won I don't think we'd have made it out of there alive. It was already like being thrown to the lions. When the fight finished, the crowd went crazy and hundreds were diving into the ring wrecking it so we did well to get out.
We all had to feel for Gary Buckland.
The super-featherweight had done ten weeks training, flown 7,000 miles to fight Fernando Saucedo in a world title qualifier and got there to fight at 7.30pm only to be told he was going on later. He was waiting in the dressing room watching it on TV. But by the time the fans had finished with the ring, after Martin's fight, there was nothing left of it.Comment

You must not have read GB Olympic captain Tom Stalker's account:

Murray should have worn a Rolling Stone shirt at the press conference. I assure you that many of those aggressive guys are diehard Stones. Ask Mick Jagger or Keith.
I read a comment that said the HBO team only had seen such environment in a Joe Calzaghe fight.Last edited by FromBA; 09-07-2013, 01:27 PM.Comment
