  • Comments Thread For: Floyd: PPV Record Can Fall Without Hitting 2.5 Million

So much of the talk about the upcoming fight between Canelo Alvarez and Floyd Mayweather has been about whether it will break the pay-per-view record set by Mayweather’s bout with Oscar De La Hoya in 2007.

But Mayweather says the mark can fall without hitting 2.5 million buys, that it’s about the revenue that comes in from pay-per-view purchases and not necessarily the number of homes ordering the broadcast.

“We still can break the record and we don’t have to do 2.5,” Mayweather said on a Sept. 4 media conference call. [Click Here To Read More]

That's only way you'll break the record. No way in hell this sells 2.5 million.

$75 for PPV is atrocious. I'll be going to the bar anyway, but man Hi-Def is getting out of control. Seems like they keep raising it year after year.

So basically: A big Fuck You to everyone as it's not about how many homes per capita or people watch it, but how much money he can squeeze out of less people for the higher price.

well the less people that watch it the better. less people will be bored. He's actually thinking of the fans well being and enjoyment.

Prices for everything always goes up. In 10 years 1mil ppv buys will exceed the floyd/oscar ppv $$$ amount so the dollar amount dont mean ****. I believe it will do huge numbers just because canelo and money are the 2 biggest names in boxing and theres more people alive now than there was 6 years ago. More people alive=more boxing fans. But if u want to be a loaner, over pay for beer, over pay for chicken wings, go to a bar.

                  74.95?

I've been a big time boxing fan; Floyd Mayweather fan and and golden boy fan but they're out of their f--in mind with those prices.

Thank you Floyd and Oscar for ruining this sport and sucking the fans dry.

Floyd I hope your ass loses; Oscar, Richard Schaefer you all disgust me; forget me and my group of friends supporting your Ppv and your live fights at barclays center or anywhere else.

                  Good riddance!

Ill happily watch baseball, football and basketball with mega superstars and corporations who don't do this to their fans.

You know what I think? I strongly believe that Floyd is being guaranteed such a large purse of $41mil because he wont be receiving any ppv revenue from this fight so that Showtime can recoup their losses for the Guerrero bout. At the end of the day everyone wins. Floyd gets the highest guaranteed purse in boxing history while Showtime banks the profits from ppv and recoups from the previous Floyd fight. I may be wrong but this is what I believe. It isnt far fetched.
