Probably for his activity all i remember was when he said he didnt want to fight rigondeaux because he couldnt draw a crowd yet he fought mathebula an african who only brought his family to the fight. Donaire knew what the result would be if he fought rigondeaux but i do respect him for taking the fight cause we wanted to see that fight for ages
Donaire fought tomato cans in 2012, The first two put up a fight.

Simple conceptProbably for his activity all i remember was when he said he didnt want to fight rigondeaux because he couldnt draw a crowd yet he fought mathebula an african who only brought his family to the fight. Donaire knew what the result would be if he fought rigondeaux but i do respect him for taking the fight cause we wanted to see that fight for ages
High risk, low reward
Why spend months training for a fight against someone who certainly can derail your career for peanuts?
Mathebula was a secured paycheck, Rigondeaux wasn't.
Then Donaire finally gives what the boxing community was begging for, for the sake of the fans, loses, then has been demonized ever since for it?... I can't stand boxing "fans".Comment

Yeah I wasn't impressed with Donaire's 2012 run either. Nishioka was old and had been off for a year. Arce was old too but still managed to stop Vazquez, which Nonito failed to do. Mathebula I felt honestly outboxed Donaire and did enough to win that fight. Aside from the knockdown, he made Donaire look silly at times and was able to find a home for his jab throughout the night. On top of that, Mathebula just isn't very good. This is why I was just never sold on Nonito like many were. He's a good fighter but not a great oneLast edited by BigZigga; 09-02-2013, 07:29 AM.Comment

only the Arce fight was a shit choice by Nonito
the other 3 were solid guys and good wins for him
Nishioka was stripped of his belt, he never lost it in the ring
Nonito rightfully unified 3/4 of the 122 lb title in 1 yr
in doing so he established a lineal title too
he was beating guys who were relevant in the division
don't see what's to complain about except Arce, which was ishComment

Another Rigondeaux nuthugger who doesn't understand that by trashing Donaire, he's trashing Rigondeaux's best win. SMFHComment

1) None of those four guys were "tomato cans". They were current or former title holders in or not too far removed from their prime.
2) Vazquez won maybe 3 rounds against Donaire, but since he didn't get blown out like most expected, a lot of people somehow convinced themselves that it was a "close" fight.
3) Mathebula's keepaway arm punching convinced some of the more gullible that he was in the fight, but in reality, he was in full survival mode after the KD in the 4th.
4) Nishioka was the consensus no.1 guy at 122, and when Donaire fought Vazquez and Mathebula, his haters were like "he wants no part of Nishioka". But after Donaire beat him, he was suddenly old and shopworn.
5) Arce was on a nice run that included one of his career best wins, and outweighed Donaire by 6 pounds on fight night, but to some, he was "shot and undersized".
6) If you thought Martinez, Garcia, Guerrero and Broner had a campaign worthy of FOTY consideration in 2012, you don't know much about boxing.
7) Don't you realize that by trashing Donaire, you are taking away from your boy Rigo, too? Donaire is by far his best win you know.
Why can't ya'll just appreciate an elite fighter who ACTUALLY stays busy? When was the last time any fighter on the Top P4P list fought 4 times in one year? Give Nonito some praise for robbing the division of all the belts in one year!
When the fights Nonito wanted to get made against more credible opposition fell through, instead of waiting it out and relaxing, Donaire decided to at least stay busy and fight some pretty good opposition.
If only more posts in NSB threads were as good as the above two. Nice work, fellas. Both showing insight, and Black Barty, really appreciate the breakdown.Comment

Nishioka was on a one year layoff. Clearly had ring rust. Arce was cashing out. Anyone remember the quit job he did against Rojas then refused to rematch him since? Vasquez fight was whatever. Guy lost to Arce, then beats a 13 loss fighter and, boom Donaire fights him.
Mathebula was a good winComment

if hbo was willing to give fighters 4 dates during a calendar year, i bet a whole more would do it. I always thought that competition was nothing spectacular and was trying to let people know that before he fought rigo while everyone else was saying nikioshia was the best fighter at 122 lmaoWhy can't ya'll just appreciate an elite fighter who ACTUALLY stays busy?
