Comments Thread For: Erik Morales Will Gladly Accept Special WBO Belt

Former four division world champion Erik Morales (52-9, 36KOs) will be honored by the World Boxing Organiztion. The sanctioning body wants to hold a ceremony in Morales' hometown of Tijuana and present him with a specially made WBO belt.

Morales captured the WBO super bantamweight title in his first violent war with Marco Antonio Barrera on February 19, 2000. Morales never defended the title and moved up to featherweight two fights later. The first fight with Barrera was the first and only time that Morales had fought with a WBO championship at stake.

Will they charge him a sanctioning fee at this ceremony?

Happy for him. Its a honor to receive a medal , a belt of any kind. Its the meaning behind it. I think all sanctioning bodies suck, but fighters fight for them trinkets. oh what the hell....Morales is ATG IMO...he deserves it.

He's getting a belt even tho the only fight where a WBO belt was on the line in his whole career was in the first Barrera fight, which he should have lost?

WBO is desperate to make a name for themselves since they know they are the lowest amongst the Big 4 ABC belts.

Juan Manuel Marquez DUCKED Erik Morales His Entire Career!

As recent as July before JMM vs Pacquiao 4, Marquez was offered a massive fight at Texas Stadium with fellow countryman Legend Erik Morales, and JMM declined. Morales and Marquez used to train in the same gym years ago. Then there was a "falling out", and they went separate ways. To this day Marquez has held a grudge and Morales has said time and again he'd be more than willing to fight Marquez, and agreed to fight him of late before the Pacquiao fight. Would have gone well for Marquez because now Morales is a shot fighter. But in the day, Marquez & Morales fought Pacquiao and Barrera multiple times in their prime but never one another. Morales must have gotten the best of JMM in the gym for years.
