Freddie Roach does the same thing. Said to Margarito 'I saw your last 2 fights', talked smack to Marquez in the build up to fights 3 and 4. Granted it's not as much smack talking as Mayweather does but he's pretty bad too
Does any fighter belittle, degrade, bemoan and downgrade their opposition like Floyd?

broner comes to mind. OH and while not a fighter, freddie roach be chitten on pacs opponents a lot lol. Its just a mental thing. But tbh is any fighter more humble, gracious, reserved, respectful and big up his opponents after a fight like floyd? theres two sides to this...Comment

Plenty. Brash talkers tend to do it to get an edge in their mind.
Like already mentioned, Muhammad Ali did it prastically every fight. Everyone was a bum in his eyes compared to him.Comment

I'd put Ricardo Mayorga ahead of Floyd in that department. Truthfully I don't find Floyd's trash talking to be that great at all. It's kinda the same with every opponent.
Now Mayorga had sayings like sending fighters back on banana boats, hiring them to work on his yard. detaching a retina etc etc. He degraded his opponents pretty wellComment

Most boxers go into a match thinking I'm better than my opponent or no other boxer is as good as me. That's a fighter's mentality. I would rather hear that than false modesty. It's even worst when religion gets brought in. The last thing I think about when I'm watching someone about to get KO'd is, "I wonder how often they go to church..."Comment

This is an idiotic thread. The highest form of respect a fighter can give his oppenent is to come in on his best shape of his life. Floyd always comes in tip top. Fighters like JCjr who smokes weed and gets DUIs during training camp is more disrespectful to an opponent then a fighter just talking smack.Last edited by littlemac; 08-31-2013, 08:28 AM.Comment

Yeah but everyone involved in the sport knows they are good or great opponents. Only a fool would think Sonny or Foreman were bums or that Frazier was gona get whooped handily.Ali called George Foreman a slow flat footed Mummy...Joe Frazier too ugly to be champion, Uncle Tom, white mans champion...Sonny Liston - if you want to lose your money dont bet on Sonny, the Big Ugly Bear....Floyd Patterson The Rabbit cause I'm going to beat him so bad he'll freeze......
Sonny Liston "The Big Ugly Bear"
Floyd Patterson "The Rabbit"
George Chuvalo "Washer Women"
Ernie Terrell "The Octopus", because of his style.
Oscar Bonavena "The Beast"
Joe Frazier "The Gorilla"
Buster Mathis Sr. "The dancing Hippo"
George Foreman "The Mummy"
Earnie Shavers "The Acorn", because of his baldness.
Leon Spinks "Dracula", because of the gap of his teeth.
Larry Holmes "Peanut", because the shape of his head.
I got no problem with Floyd trash talking in the build up to a fight, he obviously doesn't take his opponents lightly, that's why he trains like mad, having said all that, none of Floyd's quips are funny or witty. They don't entertain, he just sounds like a stuttering ****** rat who tries too hard in front of the camera, whereas Ali came across natural and trash talked with flair and eloquence.
The likes of Floyd, Toney, Broner etc wish they had that quality but none of them have the charm.
And to those who say Floyd belittling his opponents makes people doubt his opponents and belittle them too, that's BS! And you all know it, the vast majority of Floyd's work over the last 6 or 7 years has been against opponents who were past their sell by dates (Mosley, Cotto, Oscar) or not worthy (Baldomir, Mitchell, Guerrero, Ortiz). At every turn, Floyd had a better opponent he could have picked but he didn't, that's why I belittle his opponent not because I believe what Floyd says about his opponents is true.Comment
