  • Comments Thread For: Chavez Jr. is Willing To Fight Ward, Golovkin, Martinez

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr will make his return to the ring after a one year hiatus as he will take on the always tough Brian Vera at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA. The weight for the fight has been changed a few times and it will now take place at the Super Middleweight limit of 168 pounds.

Originally the fight was scheduled for September 7th but due to a cut suffered by Chavez during training camp, the bout was postponed 3 weeks. Many questioned out loud if the real reason for the postponement was Chavez’s struggle to make weight despite him putting out a photograph of his cut getting stitched up.

I give this clown about six months and then he won't even be able to make smw. That is if he can even make that now!

So "coincidental" that he postponed the fight because of a "cut". And yet even with the extra time, he still could not get down to the 165 limit. smh!

Chavez can make a lot of money against B-level opposition and will look to do that before facing Ward or going back to 160 for Golovkin. A win over Bika gets him a belt which he can defend against lesser opposition for as long as possible and that's what I expect him to do. It'll be a re-run of what he did at MW. Personally I'm not convinced he beats Bika though so we'll see.

I'm not a Chavez fan but there was a time when he was the 2nd best mw on the planet and in all honesty, rightfully so. The man's best wins pre-Martinez were Andy Lee, Manfredo, Rubio, Zbik and Duddy. That's a decent list of wins in a division which at the time was not as varied as it is now. Actually that's a better resume than what GGG has right now and people are hyping him to kingdom come.

I know Chavez is fat and lazy and hard to like but he was a pretty good mw before the GGG hype train came to town and before Quillin was considered legit. This is around about the time the likes of Macklin and Barker had already been dismissed from the top of the contender pile by Martinez.

I think Junior can make a real go at smw, no doubt he loses to the elite in Froch and Ward but he can beat up on a lot of the b list guys and there's no shame in that.

In which case, he can go to LHW and get iced by Kovalev, Cloud or Stevenson, or get utterly humiliated by Hopkins. :happy1:

I'm not sure Chavez can make middleweight again. Might be interesting to see him with Froch or Ward but I have doubts he would win those fights.

Seriously? I would mention those same fighters to make the point of how highly overrated Junior happens to be.

Too bad, this mofo could'be been an elite fighter had he dedicated completely to his craft, I saw talent in him, but waking up at 5pm, having fruity loops for breakfast, not attending training, smoking pot, how the hell was he supposed to beat Martinez with that training?, All I'm telling you, if this dude puts the hard work he destroys any Middleweight (inclluding GGG), and gives hell to all SuperMiddeleweight ( possible exception of Ward ) , but I lost hope on him, only time will prove me wrong or right, but right now I ain't watching more of his bum lazy ass.

Yeah you read it, Chavez JR. destroys GGG, with that chin of his father, and his steamroller pressure he would wear down GGG. Love too see that fight only if the bum trained himself seriously......................
