Question why was Hopkins-Stevenson turned down by HBO yet Stevenson-Cloud approved?

Yes, Golden Boy/HBO fued. Obviously Hopkins would have brought much higher ratings than Cloud. Plus it would have been the Champion (Stevenson) vs the number 1 Challenger.

Golden Boy fighters were moving to Showtime where an ex-GBP lawyer is now the head so HBO pulled the plug on doing business with them.

There are some match-ups which cannot be made but in general the competition has been very healthy for the sport, 2013 has been one of boxing's best.

What Weebler said. Also a lot had to do with Canelo. I guess Golden Boy was pissed that HBO decided to have Martinez vs Chavez jr, instead of Canelo vs TBA on a particular date, and as retaliation moved all their fighters to Showtime and HBO retaliated by saying no more GB, period. So It's all silliness that could / should be resolved.

HBO has no fight roster that fans care about. they have some good fighters, but a few of them are damn near unwatchable to the viewing public. I'll watch HBO and SHO, but that is the feeling that I get from fans on different boxing sites. It's effed, up and maybe I'm wrong, but that's the feeling that I'm getting.

His ratings are always high on HBO. Stevenson vs Hopkins would undoubtedly do better numbers than Stevenson vs Cloud.

HBO approved Stevenson-Cloud and not Stevenson-Hopkins because Showtime disapproved Kovalev-Hopkins.

Why was Hopkins-Murat approved by Showtime, but Kovalev-Hopkins disapproved?
