Comments Thread For: Mayweather Shreds Canelo's Record, Praises Marquez

Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26KOs) is not impressed with the undefeated record of his next opponents, WBC/WBA 154-pound champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-0-1, 30KOs). The fight takes place on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mayweather brushed off Oscar De La Hoya's prediction of Canelo scoring a knockout in eight rounds. He says Canelo failed to score knockouts against numerous fighters, including Austin Trout and Matthew Hatton.

Its pretty obvious Marquez has the biggest Mexican following

    2 - JCC Jr

    3 - Canelo

Floyd basically reveals his strategy in picking an opponent. Dude is really calculated and studies the flaws in an opponent, he even admit to it at the post fight for Guerrero he said how he analyzes which opponents to pick. its also why he had a catchweight, from floyds own mouth catchweights drain guys, so he knew Canelo has crap cardio so he wants to have even more advantage. He truly lives up to his name of health and self preservation first.

He is similar to Bernard Hopkins they try to go for the least risk fight but a fight that has just enough interest to give the public hope that it could get interesting, while tooting their own horn hoping people buy into what they preach.

How is this not a risky fight?

I think Mayweather should explain to us why he failed to know out Tony Pep and other opponents of "C and D" calibre.

I agree with Floyd here Marquez has accomplished more at this point in his carreer Canelo hasn't faced the opposition Marquez had.

Unfortunately, Marquez isn't the star Alvarez is. Golden Boy's done a hell of a job building the ginger up to a level he's never proven himself to be at, and he's a bigger star.

Actually it's canelo who has the biggest following and I've seen that first hand. Obviously marquez is far and away the most acomplished fighter, but the following canelo gets is insane for someone so young. Alot of kids know who canelo is and not to mention girls who follow canelo, most of this is attributed to his looks but it's still a following.

Canelo is cooked unless he knocks Mayweather out in one shot. That workout session with Canelo hitting the bag and every 10 seconds dropping his hands and resetting was lol worthy.
