    Newly crowned WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez appeared on Tuesday's edition of BoxingScene Radio to talk about his plans for the immediate future.

    Gonzalez shocked the boxing world on Saturday night with his first round knockout of the previously undefeated Abner Mares. With the win Gonzalez has a lot of different opportunities for lucrative fights.

    Shortly after Gonzalez's victory, Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer revealed that his company holds promotional options on Gonzalez's next three fights. He also said that if Mares opts not to take an immediate rematch with Gonzalez, he would like to see Gary Russell Jr face Gonzalez in November or December. [Click Here To Read More]

      Good decision cause if Jhonny recieves an L then his career is over. Still doesn't change the fact that Gary is a top competitor, and he's most likely still gonna lose no matter what. Just get ready to cough that bread up Jhonny.

                  Not mad at all. Jhonny deserves a good payday. GB has pretty much confirmed that Mares vs. Gonzalez II won't happen immediately since Mares won't be fighting again this year. Jhonny might as well take on Russell Jr. It's not like he can fight guys like Rigo, Donaire, or Mikey. GB has to put up a compelling $$ offer though.

                      He deserves a good payday if he fights Russell. Especially since that will be the end of his title reign.

                          Just because Russell is the impressive, speedy prospect who looks to have a bright further, that doesn't mean he's DLH or Leonard. He doesn't bring notoriety to the table and hasn't earned his stripes. Gonzales has been through the ringer and just scored an big upset over a top P4P fighter who had been beating many of the best his weight class(s) have had to offer. 1st round KO at that.

                          So Johnny deserves his payday(s). Not Mayweather money, but not short change either.
