  • Comments Thread For: Gamboa Seriously Considering a Big Run in Mexico

Olympic gold medal winner Yuriorkis Gamboa wants to follow in the footsteps of Ultiminio 'Azúcar' Ramos and Ángel 'Mantequilla' Nápoles by living and fighting in Mexico. Azucar and Napoles left Cuba in the early 1960s and made their careers in Mexico. Gamboa had recently visited Mexico and met with promoter Pepe Gomez of Cancun Boxing to discuss the possibility of resuming his career in the country.

Gamboa (23-0, 16KOs) sees a lot of advantages to taking the road to Mexico. Besides holding a meeting with Gomez, Gamboa also met with officials of the World Boxing Council and appeares interested in fighting for one of their championships. Gamboa currently has the WBA's interim title at 135-pounds. [Click Here To Read More]

Too bad the Mares fight is off the table now, but I wouldn't mind him fighting in Mexico. Just get a damn fight.

Considering? As if he has a lot of options. Beggars can't be choosers.

Why? HBO still seems to be interested in Gamboa for whatever reason.

gamboas career has gone down the drain. Should have never stood up that Rios career high pay day he will never receive again.

Right now he needs to fight an easy fight just to look good and hype himself up, then he needs to get his ass busy and try and fight guys like mikey garcia, terrance crawford, ricky burns. Its risky but hes in that stage in his career, if he wants to make some noise and money thats what hes gotta do.
