Why didn't HBO or Showtime offer Pacquiao a fight deal?

A) Showtime and HBO never offered Floyd any deals. Haymon went to HBO with the ridiculous demand of $200 million for Floyd to do his bum of the month tour. HBO laughed him out of their offices, and Showtime being newbie suckers jumped on it thinking they had just pulled a heist. Before they knew it, they were getting fleeced Willie style by Floyd and his people, having to fork over a fortune for a glorified sparring match with Guerrero. The company lost tens of millions of dollars and are now hoping they can at least break even with the Canelo fight.
B) Pacquiao, as someone pointed out earlier, has an exclusive deal with HBO that runs until the end of 2014.Comment

Tyson at that point was fighting for paychecks and nobody else was on the roster; Showtime roster of fighters now are a hell off alot better now than then. In the last calender year they have had 4 1m viewers for there fights. they are doing it with not as many suscribers as HBO. I think the move is working out quite well.Last edited by dc3383; 08-28-2013, 01:36 AM.Comment

At a great cost though, they're already having to put Broner on PPV for lack of budget. The GBP roster is very nice but also very expensive, and now they rely on a single outlet burdened by Floyd's money losing contract. GBP will probably have to downsize, we'll see in a couple of years.Comment

Cause Pac isnt going to pick 6 fights where he knows he will win. Pac takes fights that are high risk not no young up and coming C rated former LW or LWW..Comment

Lets be real nobody knows what the Guerrero fight made or lost everything is rumor. And neither CBS or Showtime is worried money they are trying to rebuild back there boxing brand and guess what its working. Floyd will only fight on PPV so that has nothing to do with there regular boxing budget. The more fighters you can have as PPV stars the more you can build up fighter like Mares or Santa Cruz. The Broner PPV is a feeler to see what type of drawing power he has.Comment

If the rumors are near true, they better be fcuking worried. Nobody sweeps that under the carpet. You're right these come from separate budgets, but where do you think a boxing PPV shortfall is gonna be made up from the following year? If SHO had that much money to waste on boxing, they could have put a fraction in their annual budget and taken over HBO as America's #1 Boxing Network long ago, no risk.Comment
