During the postfight news conference, however, Mayweather came clean. He said he had been ill and had suffered a left hand injury during his training camp. But he refused to withdraw from the fight.

"I came into the fight weighing 147 [pounds], so I was four pounds lighter than I was [at Friday's weigh-in]," said Mayweather, whose cold caused him to lose weight after the weigh-in.

Cotto weighed 154 pounds -- the division limit -- and put on several pounds after the weigh-in, giving him a distinct weight advantage in the ring.

Thread is a compliment to Floyd when you think about it.
Most don't understand that Floyd doesn't have to make weight, he was 148.5 at the 30 day weigh in for Guerrero. WW is his walk around weight. Hagler may have been small for MW but he was chiseled at the weigh in.

You know it must be a boring day when people have to use fantasy fights to discredit a fighter.

This is like someone asking if Marquez could move up to 147lbs and KO Pacquiao, why could Barrera do it? They are both Mexican after all. If that sounds ******, well, ethnicity is about the most Mayweather and Ray Leonard share. They don't fight the same, don't have the same physical attributes or similar career paths.

Of course, a fighter that started at 130lbs has no excuse not to face a career middleweight, so what if he can't even make 154lbs. No excuse! I know it didn't exist back then, the fact is bare knuckle didn't exist in Hagler's time so can't be made irrelevant if comparing him to turn of the last century fighters.

They're both greats, products of their own generations. And Hagler would win being as good as he was and naturally bigger. Would any other welterweights around now beat him?

Nope none of the welters are big enough to beat him and none of the 154-175 pounders would beat Hagler and that includes the NSB flavors of the month Kovalev and Golovkin.

Hagler was a beast too. Why match him up with a WW? Greatest chin too.

You can rationalize all you want that welters should only fight welters and that there is no way in the universe Floyd should even be considered as an opponent for Hag...but all it shows is a basic lack of respect for Hagler because Floyd is indeed big enough, he has fought men the same size as Hagler...and believe it or not...welters have moved up to fight middleweights.

Again, its not the end of the world to say that Hagler would most likely beat him. I dont even think it would be some sort of blow out or mismatch. But to fail to acknowledge this sounds a bit like groupie talk. Floyd isn;t perfect, dont have to always find a way to change the story. There are men he would lose to. Its perfectly fine.

Don't be ******, and no that's exactly what it'll be a mismatch, Floyd can stand within mid to long range against southpaws like Ortiz who bounce around predictably, he can comfortably stand within mid to long range against Guerrero who is slow footed, but how exactly does that work against Hagler who's fast on his feet, relentless, arguably the greatest chin, how the hell does Mayweather fend off one of the strongest MWs ever? Maybe you don't realize what your talking about, and it's called being a realist by the way.

this is a man who retired to avoid losing to welters during his prime, he came bck when they were over the hill and battle worn, he then ducked his biggest challenger like the plague

this is a man who ws visibly afraid of margarito

just have a look at this video, mayweather talks tash aabout margo nd then realises he is behind him lmao and shizzles himself

a man who has ducked a prime kostya, mosley, cotto, margo, pacman and williams, he ducked them because he thought he would lose, floyd could not beat hagler at 160, hell everyone of the fab 4 would have knocked floyd out, if floyd fought the best fighters (he admits in the video he will not face the best) he would have had losses, so he retired or paid them step aside money to duck them

No ! If Floyd ever fought Sugar Ray he too would have met the same fate his dad did. You see Sugar Ray had no problem figuring out a shoulder roll the problem today is there aren't that many good trainers or fighters as they were in the 70's and 80's

SRL had better foot movement then Floyd and that was his key to beating Hagler.
