It doesn't matter when he comes back. He needs to find a trainer that can teach him how to properly use a jab, the art of defense, setting up your power shots, the use of angles, using your feet to slip shots, head movement, etc.

I knew instantly after seeing his "rock em sock em" robot affair with Ponce Deleon, he was in desperate need of these skills. Things will not change for him until he better masters his craft. Yes, I'm well aware of his success and accomplishments but he has serious defensive vulnerabilities, not to mention he has a habit of throwing wide, looping punches.

I like Mares, he has good potential, but a regime change is mandatory.

Victor Ortiz was a quitter before Maidana ever got his hands on him, it's just in his nature. Mares, on the other hand, is an absolute warrior that isn't afraid to get hurt and get into the trenches to win.
Mares is going to come back strong from this, watch. I'll bet on Mares in a rematch and I'll bet on Mares vs Santa Cruz.

Mares too small to for featherweight should go back down to 122.

Mares is already an olympian and multiple time world champion, as well as a P4P fighter. he losses one fight and suddenly "things won't change for him" unless he becomes a completely different fighter?
Your right, things won't change for him: he'll probably get right back into the mix and start beating top fighters again. You don't take a 28 year old multiple time world champion and try to transform him completely, that is ridiculous.

Mares fights tough fighters?? What qualifies someone as a tough fighter? Cause I just left a thread that says Floyd fights no tough fighters, no tough challenges. So Johnny Gonzalez is more legit...more tough than Guerrero/Ortiz/Marquez/Mosley etc....?? Not trying to turn this to a Floyd thread I just want to know what a guy has to do to be considered a tough fighter?

Two things to point out: First I already acknowledged his accomplishments if you actually bothered to read my post and second, I clearly stated it was the Ponce fight that showed me his serious defensive vulnerabilities, not his knockout loss. It was quite evident before his knockout loss that either change was needed or he needed to incorporate a defensive coach to his team.

If you actuaclly believe Marquez was a threath to floyd because of weight difference then i don't know what to say.

Styles makes fights gonzales shows mire compusure than gamboa. Gamboa tends to get involved in exchanges and always seems to make damage but feceive as well and dropped. Considering his weak chin i don't think he would of even got up from that fist punch from gonzales. Or a mares punch. Styles makes fights and you never know the outcome is funny how people easily say imagine what this boxer would do to you if he faced you.

Last time i checked gamboa had a hard time with a contender at best. Didn't peoe said mares will kill gonzales because pdl>gonzales??? Doesn't make sense right? Its boxing not football
