trust that in the rematch, you'll be saying that his kryptonite is also mares. mares got caught in this one, a veces pasa asi. i'm tired of saying the word, ***. i'm going to bed.
..... it's like the dolphins losing the superbowl.
props to jhonny, i've always knew he was a stud. hopefully he can make some serious dough his next fight. great fight for him.Comment

to be fair donaire is a much much better fighter then gonzalez...........donaire just lost to a super human in rigo. i always told people that donaire would make easy work of mares.
in a way the gbp top rank beefs kinda sheltered mares away from rigo and donaire. it worked to his benefit...........Last edited by Godsfly; 08-24-2013, 11:22 PM.Comment

Anybody any given day could get caught the way Mares was caught specially when you don't cover yourself as well as he does. Losing in the first round doesn't mean much compared to getting out boxed or being beat for several rounds. One round doesn't really determine what would have been the end result of the fight. Yet Jhonny won in the best way possible and rightfully deserves the recognition.
For Mares this should be learning experience. He either was too confident, too proud or plain dumb to not hold when he could've. For sure next time he goes through the same problem, he may or should be smart enough to hold.
I would like to point out the class shown by both fighters at the end.
Specially the post fight comment by Mares "I'm not in boxing to retire undefeated but to fight the best". May this be a fact and not words unlike those who claim to be the best without fighting the best at given moments.Comment

Funny, I actually thought he won that fight close, he definitely didn't get embarrassed and had his manhood taken away by a 10-1 underdog.Comment
