I disagree with the statement that MMA is struggling,,, they are still growing but at alot slower pace,,,, MMA is here to stay, and is still in its infancy,,
It has been around for about 20 years,, and as a "mainstream sport" only about 10-12 years....

It took forever for nascar to get bigger than indy, and NBA, NFL took years to eat away at baseball...

I like MMA and love boxing,, I cant understand how you can hate one and like the other,,, I like watching people fight, either in boxing or in the cage,,,
Its like saying i only like basketball but hate football or soccer,, it doesnt make any sense,, they are 2 extremely different sports,,,,,

:/.... They must not be hardcore mma fans either if they dont know what purpose they serve in mma and what purpose gloves serve in boxing. :/. the REAL mma fans actually are fairly familiar with boxing as a sport (not necessarily meaning they follow it). Not to mention mma fighters or ones who train anyway.

Who said I hated MMA? I just hate MMA being brought up on a boxing forum. As you said, there are extremely different sports, so keep MMA out of here. And I could explain to you why I lost interest in MMA long ago, but that would require discussing MMA, and I do not wish to do so, I come here only to discuss boxing. If you find me on an MMA site, (which won't be happening) then by all means present the question to me there.

You can disagree all you want but until you mathematically break down their ppv revenue over the last 10 years, which is the meat of their enterprise, you would think otherwise.

MMA is just about done. Stick a fork in it. They'll be on tour with Barnam & Bailey in the next 5 years.

And where can i breakdown the ppv revenue,, ufc is a private company so they dont release anything,,,

If you knew anything about the mma business, they prefer not to follow boxing's mistakes and only be on premium channels like HBO and Showtime and ppv,,,

UFC has very lucrative deals with fox to provide live fights on numerous cable channels, plus reruns, plus specials,,,,

Looking at just ppv is ****** and that why boxing is in a blackhole compared to 30 years ago,,,

everyone knew who tyson, ali, chavez, srl, hearns, duran, hagler, foreman, whittaker were,,

today people know floyd, manny, and if your from europe the klitchkos
Floyd and manny are the only legit global names,, and even then alot of mainstream people dont know who they are,, its just boxing fans,,,
Tyson and SRL were known by everyone,,,,, not just boxing fans,, big difference,,

So all the evidence shows that boxing is in decline as a whole,, yes floyd pulls big numbers but nowhere near what he did with oscar, because oscar was probably the last mainstream global star for boxing,,,,,

There's a reason they use the gloves they do, and it also has more to do with than just the fact that MMA fighters are notorious for being far inferior when it comes to striking.

I know about all of it and I'll show you how. UFC/Zuffa is a privately owned company which is why we don't really know how much the company itself is worth. But the ppv data is out there for everyone to see. This is the biggest revenue stream for them so its important, follow me?

You can find that data here:

I would post my work but its on another computer. Its a bit of work but what you do is add all UFC ppv buys for a year and divide that number by events and you get an average. Do this for every year.

Note the drops and ppv avgs as well as note how many events per/year they do. What you'll see is a steady decline is avg ppvb since 2006 or 2007 which were their peak years. You will also notice they are doing way more ppv's to circumvent the steadily declining ppvb avg. More shows with less ppvb is their current formula. This low ppvb trend will stay static and they will do even more shows. Supply and demand. High supply, low cost...low cost, **** shows.

I've been to a UFC live and it blows. I was in company with a recently signed multimedia party, met Jon Jones and a few other guys, skybox, comped bar. 800 dollars seats, best seats in the house. The octagon is just plain hard to see through. Its a bad set up. The event was boring and the crowd was super quiet and would occasionally erupt for a second. Very strange. So bad, I left and went to a bar down the street to kill time.

Anyway, boxing on premium channels is THE move and far from a mistake. Its called premium for a reason. Its like comparing a dog track to The Venetian. UFC on Fox and those trinket outlets pay alpo. The big league money is on the pay channels and premium channels don't want any part of it. Facts here.

I've been watching UFC since #1 and when the boxing vs mma beef erupted they were saying then that boxing was in trouble when guys like DLH, Bhop and Mosley retire. Its the same old story, then FMJ and Pacquiao came along and crushed it. Now its whats going to happen when Mayweather retires. Its going to keep moving forward.

Truth is Bhop and Mosley never did good ppv numbers so the genesis of this phenomenon was cast in error. Boxing is on the rise and there is plenty of talent coming in from all area's. MMA can't say that. Their regurgitating relics still like Tito's 'Burritos' Ortiz and that guy that runs from the ring and hides when he loses, Forrest is it?

Look at it like this...who's on the top of Forbes top 10 richest athletes? Mayweather and Pacquiao. Two boxers. Do you even see one single solitary MMA fighter in the top 100? There is your answer.
