Comments Thread For: ESPN2 Friday Night Fights "Tyson Is Back" Early Results

The 2013 season finale of ESPN2 Friday Night Fights features the official promotional debut of former heavyweight king Mike Tyson. The show, aptly named "Tyson Is Back" is headlined by Argenis Mendez in the first defense of his 130 lb. title, as he faces Arash Usmanee later this evening.

The telecast received a highlight in its first five minutes, as ESPN2 cameras caught Tyson and Teddy Atlas shaking hands prior to the start of the show. The moment comes 30 years after their time spent together as trainer and amateur fighter at the late Cus D'Amato's gym in the Catskills.

Their relationship was brief, as Tyson - 16 at the time - made inappropriate advances towards Atlas' 11-year old niece. Atlas addressed the issue by allegedly putting a gun to Tyson's head and threatening to kill him if he ever again touched a member of the trainer's family. The incident led to Atlas' dismissal from D'Amato's gym. [Click Here To Read More]

Thank you for mentioning this Jake, good little read here.
I wasn't sure what the beef was about but it's good to see this new version of Mike Tyson.

Usmanee is tough as nails. Mendez does a better Mayweather than Broner. He faded towards the end but a good performance overall. Great first effort for Tyson as a promoter.

Teddy Atlas's scorecard for Cuellar vs Marrero was WWWWAAAYYYY off. Cuellar easily won 9 rounds, and that is giving Marrero the benefit of the doubt in those few rounds.

The last seconds in the last rd of Usmanee-Mendez was awsome. Someone was about to get k.o.'d They were just landing shots at each other.

                    I had Mendez winning 115-113.

I'll re-watch the bout, but 114-114 doesn't seem like a huge stretch to me.
