  • Comments Thread For: Hopkins Says Kovalev is Flat-Footed, Just Like The Rest

Bernard Hopkins won’t be facing Sergey Kovalev next — first he has his mandatory title defense against challenger Karo Murat — but the 48-year-old future Hall of Famer doesn’t sound at all worried about the light heavyweight power-puncher.

“Tito, Kelly Pavlik, Tarver n Cloud all are the same: flat footed punchers who come forward. Kovalev is no different,” Hopkins wrote on Twitter on Friday.

Tito is Felix Trinidad, the middleweight whom Hopkins dissected en route to a 2001 technical knockout that made Hopkins the undisputed middleweight champion. Pavlik also was easily out-boxed and lost a unanimous decision to Hopkins in 2008. Antonio Tarver lost the light heavyweight championship via unanimous decision to Hopkins in 2006. And Tavoris Cloud lost a unanimous decision to Hopkins this past March.

B hop has everything to beat kovalev, but due to being older , like in the dawson fight, he will be weaker. He cant beat kovalev who is too strong and fresh.
B hop will have to out box that guy for 12 rounds No way .he is asking for a kovalev fight . Beat the hit guy before he gets super hot. This is biting
Off more then you can chew this time.

That boy is tailor made for B Hop. How many times does he have to prove himself. He can beat this boy when he is 60

As much as I dislike Hopkins, this is an easy fight for him.

I realize Popkins is getting old but does he relize that this isn't the 1920's of his youth and that we have more to go on than just newspaper reports? Trying to compare Kovalev to flatfooted guys like Pavlik or Cloud is silly.

One thing that makes Kovalev so interesting is he is not that and unlike most punchers can deliver power punches in combination without having to sit down on his shots. He's very mobile and light on his feet which is why Bernard is trying to use Floyd's playbook and spew ludicrous falshoods to avoid the fight knowing his usual spoling bore tactics wouldn't work on a mobile puncher who throws 90 punches a round. Sad that Bernard is so fearful that he's been reduced to using Floydisms.

As a Hopkins fan, at this stage, Kovalev takes him out.
