Hopkins you didn't have the balls to go to Cleverly's hometown because you were afraid you would get robbed, because you don't have the punching power to finish him. Kovalev was facing the same risk and he still went because he was confident, yet he finished the job.

This idea that Kovalev is scared of Hopkins is laughable. Now Hopkins is left fighting Clev's leftovers, Karo Murat.
Great post and 100% true. Hopkins, while accomplished and certainly very good, has been fraud and a ConMan right from the very beginning. Trace it back to Nard's middleweight reign. Littered with nobodies, shot fighters, Jr. Middleweights etc. I've said and I maintain that he has been a better manager (for himself) over the years than he has been a fighter. How he maneuvered himself has been nothing short of genius.

Hopkins has been cherry picking opponents for the last 13 years.

He goes after low work rate non combo punchers that only suit his style.

I do. Kovalev is untested and is getting some of that carry-over hype from the GGG/Matthysse crowd.

There is no reason for you to act this way, as if it's a impossible feat for Hopkins to beat this guy.

So while Hopkins is in, if that is the direction Kovalev pursues, it gets a little complicated because HBO won’t do business with Golden Boy, his promoter. Though Showtime was ready to televise Hopkins against then-mandatory Karo Murat on July 13 -- before Murat dropped out because of an inability to get a visa -- the network, from what Hopkins said, is not interested in putting him on against Kovalev.

The reason for Showtime’s possible reluctance to put on Hopkins-Kovalev is because it is not heavily invested in the division and doesn’t have any future rights on Kovalev, so it wouldn’t want to build him up only to see him beat Hopkins and then go to HBO, which is doing a ton of business at light heavyweight and super middleweight.

For me, it’s a no-brainer,” the 48-year-old Hopkins said. “Kovalev can go get Cleverly, I can probably get Adonis and we go head-to-head and give the fans the old light heavyweight battles they had in the late '70 and '80s, and then the winners can fight. It doesn’t seem complicated. OK, maybe I’m being a little sarcastic.”

I agree some are putting Kovalev in the GGG/Matthysse class. I'm not sold he's on that level just yet. He can no doubt punch but Hopkins can likely neutralize that. its a very losable fight for him. its harder for me to imagine him KOing Hopkins than for him to get outpointed

I don't think BHop will risk fighting another white boy that has a rhythm. He'll be owned again
