Comments Thread For: Martin Murray: Up To Hearn To Make Barker Showdown

MARTIN MURRAY believes a clash between him and Darren Barker would be one for the ages.

Barker won the IBF middleweight title at the weekend with a bruising 12 round decision over Daniel Geale.

And in the days since, the Barnet man has mentioned Murray as a potential opponent for first defence.

Murray has already proven his mettle at world level in two overseas title attempts and, if made, the fight would easily be the biggest all-British clash in the 160lbs division since the era of Eubank, Benn and Watson. [Click Here To Read More]

I agree - I would love to see this fight. Murray did great against Martinez, and Barker looked great in his last fight. Middleweight is really an exciting division now, with those 2, Quillin, Golovkin, Geale, Chavez - there can be some great fights while Martinez is out over the next 9 months or so

Murray wasn't at all interested when Golovkin was offering him a title shot. But now he's very willing to get one against Barker.

Isn't it funny how that works?

HBO wanted Murray v Golovkin in the US. Murray can't get a visa in America at the moment.

Murray was interested in Barker before he had a title.

Well a few MW Brit's have been after belts for awhile, and Murray has been unfortunate not to get one to be fair.

He's openly said they've all been going after the champs for the belts, but once one of them has one they can finally have some big $ and fan heavy domestic match-ups.

That's exactly what that is so I don't see the problem.

I like both, Barker more, but Murray likely wins imo.

Barker should agree, but with an optional rematch clause so he gets two paydays. The other question, is Murray the biggest domestic fight out there? Might a Macklin fight be worth more? Also, Geale claims to have a rematch clause.

I'm reading talk about the Sturm fight being in Germany, not sure how that would happen.

I want Martinez-Murray II. Winner gets Golovkin.

Martinez says he's never giving Murray a rematch, he made up something about Murray kneeing him in his knees during the fight and says he's never giving him a rematch (i.e. he knows he'd get beat).

Murray will fight Golovkin imo, it's just a matter of when. Martinez will cash out against GGG, Di Bella will wait for the optimal time to match them.

                    Martinez seriously said that? Disappointing.
