Comments Thread For: Hearn: Burns in Tough vs. Beltran, Gets Big Fights Next

Ricky Burns is a lightweight titleholder who hasn’t lost in six and a half years. Ray Beltran is a challenger with six losses on his record. But Burns’ promoter doesn’t see Beltran as an easy opponent.

“I think it’s a really, really tough fight to be honest with you,” Eddie Hearn said on Aug. 16, speaking to BoxingScene’s David Greisman and Tim Starks of Queensberry-Rules.com at the weigh-in for the middleweight title fight between Daniel Geale and Darren Barker. “I think Beltran is hugely underrated, in terms of if you look at his record. I mean he’s lost a couple of times, been thrown in early on, [and is] coming off a couple of good wins. I think that outside of the champions, he’s probably the toughest opponent we could’ve picked. [Jorge] Linares was another option, but I thought Beltran was more deserving. [Click Here To Read More]

    Burns is worse than Cleverly

Ricky Burns is weaker than Cleverly and as much a joke as Nate.

He really isn't. Watch him beat Beltran.

Interesting Figueroa is mentioned as a possible opponent for Burns, I'd love to see that fight. GBP probably wouldn't take it tho, he's a Haymon fighter too.

Burns got exposed in his last fight. Jose Gonzalez was schooling him before he quit.

If he finally decides to step up against a world class operator he will lose IMO. Whether that be Crawford, Vasquez, or Abril.

              Burns got "exposed"?

What, like people were touting him as some unbeatable monster before hand?

When he steps up, he will lose? Oh FINALLY he will lose!

The guy lost to Alex Arthur and Carl Johansen at domestic level but only in his last fight, he was "exposed"?

...sounds like slick Eddie has still got himself a fight to sell.

Giving Beltran the big build-up suggests that the box offiice is hardly humming
and the Sky Sports website is not getting that many clicks.

Burns is a more than decent champ and he'll beat Beltran handily unless he's been training on San Miguel in the Costa del Sol or does something daft.

What we all want to know is how he goes out against the big beasts out there and whether Ricky is decent or a true global star.

now that pauli and clev are no longer champs,,,,

burns is now the worst and weakest champ in boxing,,,,,,,,,,

i honestly think him and ray is a 50/50 fight,,,,,,maybe 60/40 in burns favor.....

gamboa, crawford, vasquez, abril, all school him........

burns should have just taken the big money broner fight when he had the chance,,,

We kinda know he's not a true global star, ever. I'll be really impressed if he beats Beltran handily, maybe his toughest opponents yet.
