Golovkin has proven nothing thus far other than the fact that he can beat a bunch of journeymen. Martinez is not running. Quillin is not running. Stevens is not running. And Barker is not running. His promoter said he is going to fight his mandatory, which he must do to keep the belt he just won. He also wants to make as much money as he can for his fighter, which is the goal of every promoter, including Golovkin's. If Golovkin wants a fight against one of the best fighters in the world, all he has to do is move up eight pounds. Ward will fight him in his next fight without hesitation. However, Golovkin himself said it will be two to three years before he is ready to move up to face Ward. Yet, he is willing to go 154 now to face Mayweather or Alvarez. That tells me a lot about who is afraid of who.
I remember when all the amateur boxing experts on this message board were claiming that Margarito was feared by every welterweight in the world, including Mayweather. Then Paul William kicked his ass and Mosley KO'd him. All of a sudden, the only person who was afraid of him was Mayweather, who didn't fight him while he was retired for 2.5 years. Golovkin is no different. He will be exposed as soon as he steps in the ring with a quality opponent.
You and others should stop riding Golovkin's nuts as if he is the greatest thing since sliced bread because he hasn't proven anything thus far fighting stiffs, has beens and never was's.

Let's just hope that Sturm doesn't get the W or else we'll have to wait MUCH longer. If Sturm had fought GGG when he was supposed to, the MW division would probably look a lot different. GGG would've probably fought Macklin/Murray/Geale already.

exactly. things unfortunately didn't work out that way, now we have golovkin/stevens and barker/sturm on the horizon. like someone pointed out earlier in this thread, hbo televised geale/barker for a reason. we just have to wait and see what comes out of this.

man Barker had a good fight against Geale but imo GGG is just on another level I dont see any middleweight right now who can handle his power.

do you have any evidence, to support your claims that GGG camp offered them "peanuts"
Stevens is lucky to get the 300k or whatever it was,,, its easily his biggest payday,,, so what makes you think ggg is offering peanuts

look at matthysse, another hard hitting favorite in the sport right now. his situation was way worse. he was robbed of actually holding a world title in his last fight while having the same promoter. not to mention his upcoming fight that seemed like it would never happen. being an interim champ while the regular champ fought a month before you and again shares the same promoter.
golovkin is not martinez's, quillin's, or barker's mandatory, nor shares the same promoter as them. that's obviously not an excuse to not have those fights made, but it just means that it's going to be a bit more difficult to actually make them. like you said, promoters are there to make their client's the most money they can. golovkin is obviously the top fighter in the division (no. 1 unofficially since most believe he'd beat martinez) so fighters are obviously going to want to get paid to step in the ring with him.
hopefully K2 and HBO can eventually get these other top MWs in the ring with golovkin. i truly believe it will happen eventually. like someone said before, HBO showcased geale/barker for a reason. if barker and murray want to get showcased on american television (specifically HBO), they ought to know they're going to try and make a golovkin fight with them. they're all prizefighters at the end of the day. they fight for money.

As for Geale, how the hell am I going to call him a ducker for fighting Mundine over Golovkin? Freaken old man Mosley is getting 1.5 million to fight Mundine in Australia. Geale with his belt probably got just as much, if not more. I doubt HBO offered anywhere near 7 figures to fight Golovkin. I don't think Geale was afraid either. Geale was also going to fight Pirog, who was in a somewhat similar high risk/low reward situation, before he got the call and bigger paycheck from Sturm. These fighters are following the money, and I'm not going to insult them for that when I'd do the same.
Originally posted by T18Z View PostIf Quillin or Martinez don't fight Golovkin who can he fight? Guys like Murray, Barker, Geale are all fights which are reputation builders for GGG, meanwhile each of them get a shot at his belts but none of them seem even remotely interested in a damn title shot.
The promoters don't even have faith in there own god damn fighters, it's so damn pathetic. Step up and face the best in your division, stop using Sturm to milk money. By your standards Golovkin can't face anyone except Martinez or Quillin because everyone else is a "miss-match".

Sturm is No.4. They'll be open to fighting Murray and Geale (#3) and if Chavez (#5) wants it he can probably get it too given the payday he'll bring.
Originally posted by GRboxing View PostWell obviously. Why shouldn't the top MW's get paid big bucks to unify? Fckung hell Hearn is in this to make money not to make Barker an ATG and Barker has big money options domestically.
All of us here are fight fans and not managers for a reason

Originally posted by Russian Crushin View PostPeanuts? First of all the offer is given by HBO, not by Golovkin. Macklin just got paid $300K in a fight where golovkin got $350K. and it looks like stevens got 300K + as well.
This is Darren fcuking Barker we're talking about, am i the only one who saw the 400 person crowd on saturday that they fought in front of? This is getting ridiculous, huge money? That fight would not draw a big crowd anywhere. HBO probably offered more money then anyone else (which was probably very little) and made it happen in the US.
