Heavyweights traditionally mature late. They hit their peak in their 30s.

As for Mark Breland he was a 5 time winner of the NY Golden Gloves. Had an amateur record of 110-1. Won the world amateur championships. Won an Olympic gold medal.

As a pro he won the welterweight championship of the world. Twice. He retired early and left the sport with a record of 35-3-1, 25 KOs.

He has trained several fighters, most notably Vernon Forrest for the Ike Quartey fight.

Breland also happens to be very tall for his weight class and his best punch was the right hand. Does that sound similar to anyone else you know?

His credentials are many and sound your correct. I still think his coach could afford him more polish (Wilder). I know Heavies peak much later and last longer when managed correctly but he needs to be stepping up at his current age. Not too fast at once but steadily.

i have been saying this for years. ppl who complain about his level of opposition dont understand how boxing works. nobody is calling wilder a great fighter, just a great prospect which he is. by moving him too fast you take all that talent and throw it away.

even though he was an olympic medalist he really doesnt have much of an amateur background, he achieved everything on sheer talent without learning how to fight. thats why hes so highly touted as a prospect now, because of what he did in the amateur ranks not as a pro. all hes doing as a pro is taking the time to learn how to fight.

look at JCC, he had no amateur career so he worked his way up the ranks slowly. if he hadnt he would be a nobody right now, just potential wasted. when wilder is ready he will step up, until then he shouldnt.

It's in addition to what you said, too, because he was/is still very raw. The slow road has served him well so far... he's still around, so maybe his boxing goals will become more focused. Still really don't know what to think of him as a fighter outside of his speed and power. As he is now, I think his patience in setting up that shot is his best attribute. What happens after that is still a bit of a mess but hey whoever lands first

I for one have no problem with Wilder facing a lower level of opposition while he learns his craft. Why put him in with a top tier opponent before he's ready? Just so that he can get beat?
HE HAS FACED 29 BUMS, come on, he should be stepping up and fighting somebody in the top 20 at the very least. if he hasn't learnt valuable insights into boxing in 8 years, a number of amateur fights and 29 pro bouts then he won't ever be ready to take a step up.

I'm not saying fight the Klits or Pov or Pulev but at least someone with a heartbeat.

Doesn't always mean **** but if he has a weak chin he will need to become something of a defensive master like Wlad or Lewis to survive at the top.

He will have to learn to punch straight, I can't see him being a major factor windmilling like that.

It is a admirable his efforts for his daughter and wish him the best. Someone with such apparent potential as Wilder should be properly managed imo! One would think with the quality of current American heavies they would want to invest in this man.

I only read the bold btw... what are these issues...

Do you think he needs too eats several burittos and cheeseburgers like your hero and god Samuel Peter before he can be taken serious?????

I think you're right ...Deontay needs too eat more and get mantits and a double chin so he can absorb Wlads power

he only had 35 amateur fights from my understanding so i have softèned my opinion of him. 35 amateur & 29 pro fights isn't much experience. Didn't know about his kid either. I can see why they are taking it slow but i will point to hasim rahman who only had 10 amateur fights & won 2 world titles... He was fighting trevor birbeck by his 16th fight... I'd like to see him step it up now...

The problem with Wilder facing bums is, he is blowing them away in the first 2/3rnds he gains nothing from it. He gets exposure granted, but his management need to step up the opp's so he can get rounds and actually try and use his skills.

Chisora, Kevin Johnson, Jovo Pudar, Man even old arse James Toney & McCall, fighters that shouldn't be going down within the first min of hitting them.

Personally would love to see him face Chisora though.

A Chisora fight would be a real test and I think someone here said Toney, that would be awesome. I'd love to see Toney KOd called.
