ATLANTIC CITY — Fulfilled fight fans obviously will want to see a Darren Barker-Daniel Geale rematch after the slugfest they produced Saturday night, but it’ll have to wait.

Eddie Hearn, whose company, Matchroom Sport, promotes England’s Barker, said after Barker’s split-decision defeat of Geale at Revel that Barker must first make a mandatory defense of his IBF title against Germany’s Felix Sturm.

“We’ve got the Sturm mandatory,” Hearn said. “We’d be happy to make it in the UK in December.”

I doubt Sturm can offer enough money for Hearn too change his mind on this be an interesting fight as long as Felix doesn't come in gun shy he looked superb in his last fight letting his shots go but Barker is far better then that guy and Sturm will have to contend with being the away fighter for the first time in a long time

I think a prime Sturm would KO Barker, but this version in the UK is a winnable fight for Darren. Glad Hearn won't send him over to Germany.

It's time for Sturm to leave his German cave.....the days of him winning via gift decision are long gone so there is no reason not to travel at this point.

I guess that hopes for unification fight vs GGG went up in smoke... Somehow I hoped that Geale would fight him (thought he already showed his guts by giving up his WBO belt). Hoping for Barker to man up to fight Gennady is absurd. Hearn said clearly (few months ago) that he doesn't want his fighter anywhere near GGG.
It will be ongoing boring saga - Barker vs Sturm, Sturm vs Geale 2, Barker vs Geale 2 and on and on. I would not watch any of it.

A little bit harsh don't you think? Neither guys performance was anything but "average". I might have favored Sturm a few years ago but either Geale or Barker handily and soundly beat Sturm and I like Sturm as a fighter.
