Boxing is about imposing your will and style against your opponent. Thats all that matters when it comes to the subject of how fighters fight. There is no proof that pure boxers have more wins that brawlers. None at all. All that matters is, are you willing to take more punishment than your opponent to get the win? Thats it. Nothing more, nothing less. Kiko Martinez would make a ****ty scientific boxer. Why? Because hes small for where he fights at. He knows he is shorter, with a smaller reach, and that his best chance is to swarm his opponent with wave after wave of flurries. There are many styles to boxing, none better than the other.

Kiko Martinez is the perfect example of why "boxing is the sweet science" is pure BS.

It's still the sweet science, even when a bull like Martinez enforces the fight. Having the ability to force the fight that way is a science all its own. That's what I wish the people biased towards "pure boxers" would understand.

People confuse "Sweet science" with "fighting off the back foot".
You can never take a step backward and still be implementing the "sweet science" of Boxing.
Boxing is about implementing a stratergy using your strengths that overide your opponents weakness.
Martinez implemented that science to a tee tonight against Romero and beat the absolute crap out of him.
Just because Romero moves backwards 100% of the time doesn't make his science more effective than Kiko's.
Kiko's crude, wild, and limited but his strengths (Power, chin, stamina, relentless, cutting off the ring) make up for it and thus make it effective.
That's still a science of Boxing.

You have to fight to your strengths and impose your style on your opponent, Kiko is a shorter compact fighter with power and he fought within his ability, got the job done.
There is this notion among fans that a Floyd type of style is automatically the superior way of boxing but if that were true there would be no world class fighters like Kovalev, GGG, or Matty ice.

Interesting fight to make that assumption with. Even more interesting that you have Mayweather in your avy. Very confusing thread overall.
