THIS!Hershman is completely different than Greenberg. I guarantee Dmitry Pirog would have been right back on HBO after knocking out Danny Jacobs instead of being shunned.
Hershman his philosophy is about competitive, exciting fights. Greenberg was about paying 1.5 million dollars to Berto vs a bum.
No doubt the change with hershman and the gbp feud has a lot t do with it.
Klitschko is back on hbo soonComment

The "racist claims" freedom made were about te OLD HBO regime, you know... Before they gave Golden Boy/Al Haymon the boot....
Don't front, it's clear HBO with new management went into a new direction after the split.... Back then they had absolutey no interest in good euros regardless of style / money or fans.... Come on now, you think Pirog is boring? He took a GBP fighter to school and got completely shunned by HBO UNTIL HBO stopped working with GBP and then the new management was interested in Pirog-golovkin
HBO splitting from GBP was the best possible thing fr the network IMO. No cherry picks, no discrimination (yes I'm calling it discrimination)Comment

Doesn't really make sense when on that AMERICAN networ they were also showing Mexicans, Puerto Ricans and other Latino fighters NOT from America.
And guys like Yosn Pablo Hernandez and Steve cunnigham headlined fights in GermanyComment

Thisx200. OP failed to mention this and with this topic you can't forget to mention what NATAs just sad becsue this is the single most important thing/factor about the whole discussion.Hershman is completely different than Greenberg. Hershman his philosophy is about competitive, exciting fights. Greenberg was about paying 1.5 million dollars to Berto vs a bum.
Conclusion: HBO has whole new management from top to bottom now and coincidently started signing elite euros and putting on Great fights AFTER old management and culture/business model was thrown in the trashLast edited by King_; 08-18-2013, 10:20 AM.Comment

all HBO cares about is money. they're in the business of selling $20 a month subscriptions to a premium cable network. they want fights that sell those subscriptions.
if you're running a network that costs millions of dollars a year to run that's all you care about. you need to make enough money to pay your bills.
if fighters are blue with spots they'll be welcome on HBO if they're entertaining fighters.Comment

You don't think they could of made money with Pirog a couple of years ago? I think what you're saying is true right now in 2013 more then ever. I don't see how the old HBO could only care about money when they ignore good fighters and they pay Berto 1.5 million to fight bums (some money making strategy, eh?)all HBO cares about is money. they're in the business of selling $20 a month subscriptions to a premium cable network. they want fights that sell those subscriptions.

Problem is that being "all about money" sometimes leads to shortsighted thinking and poor business decisions.Comment
