No. Many fighters in most countries come from poor backgrounds. Argentina is a middle income country (think Russia), although there is poverty, of course. It was a sports policy implemented in the amateurs which produced this group of fighters: Matthysse, Maidana, Chaves and others. That's why there are those stories about national team barracks and Matthysse - Maidana fights in the amateurs.

Argentina isnt in the same level as Russia. There's more poverty in Argentina. Unless you believe the BS the INDEC puts out there.
Matthysse comes from a poor family, what the current government calls middle class but before 2001 and by the standards of the rest of the world can only be described as poor.

I don't want to discuss politics in a boxing forum. I don't believe the INDEC statistics. Just look at the World Bank statistics or search the Wikipedia. Of course Argentina is not in the same level than Russia. Russia can not produce food for 500 million individuals. Argentina can.

We implement the same **** over here in the UK, and we won ****! We throw taxpayers money at it, we throw lottery money at it, from youth level and still nothing.

I lived in Lomas de Zamora all my life, I have a pretty good idea of what poverty is like in Argentina. Argentina doesnt produce much real food anymore, its mostly soy (soja) for animal food and fuel.

A kid in UK doesnt know what hunger is (and thats a good thing). "Maravilla" Martinez used to tell the story during interviews, how his mom served him a big dish of food when he worked like a man for the first time, the first day he came back at night after a long day at the construction site working with his dad. Boxing is about heart and sacrifice, and true hunger.
Granted, in Argentina most poor kids focus more on saving themselves with their feet, trying to be the next Messi, than with their fists trying to be the next Monzon. It seems that boxing is getting more popular thanks to Martinez and this new generation that is doing well, so hopefully we'll have a good crop of Argentine boxers soon.

Really ?? But I think the UK performs very well in the Olympic sports and this shows there is a policy about it. Here there is not support for Olympic sports and the outcome is obvious.

I think you're biased because of your personal experience.

Like Monzon, opponents are just thieves looking to steal from his daughter... and Matthysse loves his daugther very much.
It says a lot of how he fights when he explains he hardly recognizes himself when watching videos of his fights. The guy goes up there to kill or be killed, thus the impressive KOs we've seen. On the meantime Garcia is at another stage in life with daddy issues, gangsta fashion clothes and bling, trash talking and hiphop. He's not the soul crushing monster that Matthysse is.
The KO is guaranteed, and Garcia will be flat on the canvans when the Machine goes after him. Lucas knows it. Danny knows it. Angel knows it. Hell, even most of his girly fans know it too and that's why they've got their panties all in a bunch.

So impressionable. So because a fighter says he is a Carlos Monzon wannabe, you simply believe he will win because the other guy wears "gangsta" fashion??

You are selling/convincing yourself 24/7 on this one I see. What are you going to do when Garcia wins? Suicide is not the answer bro.

I remember that Soto fight and Soto was dropping some serious bombs early in that fight, he had this look in his face.. Like he couldn't believe lucas was still coming. Soto was sharp, he would've gave any Jr welterweight a run for their money that night...
