London - Peter Fury believes young heavyweight star Hughie Lewis Fury is not your “average 18-year-old” and is “100 percent ready” for Shane McPhilbin.

Hughie takes on the former British cruiserweight champion over eight rounds on the Kid Galahad undercard at the Magna Centre, Rotherham, September 14th, live on Channel 5 from 8pm in his first big step up as a pro.

“Shane’s a tough lad and he’s got a lot of experience in the amateurs and in the pros,” Peter Fury said.

“He comes to fight, so I imagine with the training he must be doing, he’ll be on form.

Yeah, I don't think much of this match-up either. He just had a 5 fight losing streak at cruiserweight and is probably going to even less challenging than a genuine heavyweight with a losing record would've been.

There are enough lesser heavyweights out there, I would've preferred to see that rather than watch a prospect beat up a fat guy who is 7-8 inches shorter than him.

The 5 fight losing sequence doesn't detract from the fact that McPhilbin is a tough bloke with a decent punch. His skill level is poor (as shown in the loss to ****inson) but he was cheated out of a win against Maccarinelli.

I remember watching his bout with Leon Williams & I was screaming my arse off in that last round. Great heart from McPhilbin.

Remember, Fury is 18 & only been a pro for a few months & he's fighting an ex British Champion with a big punch.

It's a ok fight due to Hughies age as people point out. My only problem with Mcphilbin is he is pretty stiff and just stands square/ toe to toe in every fight trying to catch you with one big/lucky punch and does not actually attempt to box when he can't catch you with a bomb and spends a majority of a round doing nothing! what are you going to learn blowing Mcphilbin out who is flat footed and very slow at cruiserweight and is just taking the fight because he is irrelivant at the lower weight.

Just my opinion! Nothing more!

Pretty sure they could easily get him in with Sprott. That is the step up he needs next.

Yeah he's shown toughness in the past but that often doesn't tend to stay with you when you move up in weight and even at CW he looked like he wouldn't be 200lbs if in his best possible shape.

It's true Fury is still young and inexperienced but he could just face a real heavyweight who wasn't that good. At the end of the day I'm not saying he should be stepping up too fast, just that I see this as a mismatch and will be surprised if McPhilbin lasts long or lands anything
