He wasn't the best. He wasn't ranked #1, he was ranked #4 I believe or atleast below Mosley and Mayweather, perhaps not Pacquaio at that time.

Either way, he wasn't considered the best at 147 by anyone.

He'd beaten Shane but that 2 years prior but things change in 2 years. Cotto lost to Margarito and Shane beat Margarito, thus, Shane was ranked higher universally across all boards.

At the time Pacquaio beat Cotto he wasn't considered the best at 147.

At the time at 122 there was Barrera, Morales, Adams, a handful in the mix and argument. Ledwaba absolutely wasn't considered "the best" at the weight and never was in his entire career.

Presuming you mean Enrique Sanchez, I don't think he was in the mix at that particular time I think he'd lost his trinket a few years prior to this fight.

I also dont subscribe to the same theory that Pac fans do. Floyd and Pac have fought some of the same fighters at different times and most importantly different weights. Theres no comparision really.

The only 2 common opponents they truly have if we were to compare is JMM at WW and Mosley at WW. Oscar, Hatton and Cotto were at different weights so its pointless to bring up.
That's a good example, the Williams one.

It's like saying Shane didn't beat the best fighter at 147 when he beat Margarito (Universally #1 at the time) because Williams beat him a few years prior.

Things change, fights happen, rankings change. Just because a fighter beat another fighter years earlier doesn't mean they forever stay ranked ahead of them.

And that doesn't even matter, the writer say's that in 6 out of 7 divisons Pacquaio fought "the best fighter at the weight" but in regards to Ledwaba and Cotto that's simply not the case as there were a list of fighters in the mix at that time. You could absolutely not say either one of those were the absolute best at the weight at that time.

Good post. He didn't beat the best guy at 135 either.

As far as Mosley vs Cotto goes, if we're going to use triangle theories like the other posters then lets see who REALLY was the best out of the group from 07-09 when Manny was "fighting the best":

Mosley fights Cotto in a tough fight that some scored a draw, goes on to knock out Margarito in a one sided beating.

Cotto beats Mosley in a tough fight, loses to Margarito by knockout

Margarito takes a beating from Mosley and knocks out Cotto....

So, who really was the #1 guy judging by these results? It's pretty clearly Mosley.

All 3, and the fact that they live through their knight in shining armor, Floyd.

It's sad on so many levels.

2 prime examples above me. A poster that's been sucking on Floyd's **** for the longest and his ALT.

            It's not right though.

Saying Pacquaio fought the best when he fought Sasakul is right, he was universally considered the #1 at the weight.

As was Barrera, as was Marquez (08), as was Hatton.

            Cotto and Ledwaba were not.

In fairness to the writer he did specifiy about 135.

And he's right about the other divisons except for 122 and 147.

I'm not sure if you're referring to me but you can see quite clearly from my posts in this thread that I stated that the article is very good and a great breakdown of an all time great career.

All I'm doing is refuting two points that were incorrect.

Not sure why that is considered "trashing".

floyd could'nt have been ranked higher than cotto at that time given the only win he had since he came back was jmm who was then a 135lber .. like i said , shane was the #1 but given cotto beat him already at ww, it's understandable why cotto was viewed as the superior fighter to him ...

alos , when pac fought ledwaba , barrera was already at 126 along with tapia..so was morales .. and no , i was talking about agapito sanchez ...

Man, you need to get out more.

Yeah, you spend 1 post saying how the article was good, then have 5 other posts trying to tear it down.

You just couldn't say "good read", and leave it at that.

In other words when he fought Pac he wasnt the number 1 WW. Did you forget Shane vs Marg happened?
And? Pac beat all 4 of them!
