NATHAN CLEVERLY has been warned of the dangers of getting involved in a toe-to-toe battle with KO specialist Sergey Kovalev.
Cleverly makes the sixth defence of his WBO light-heavyweight title against the big-punching Russian, at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff on Saturday night.
And Kovalev’s trainer John David Jackson, a former two-weight world champion himself, believes the Welshman is likely to become his man’s latest quick-fire victim.
Kovalev has put 19 of his 21 victims out on the canvas and Jackson is convinced Cleverly will be No.20.
He said: “Sergey can match Nathan for boxing – but no way can Nathan match Sergey’s punching power.
“If Cleverly’s dumb enough to stand with us, he’ll get knocked out. Once Sergey lands a big punch, I expect Nathan to go on the retreat and attempt to outbox us off the back foot.
