Can I just say... this thread SUCKS!. I know it's one of my mine, but it's a stinky minge of a thread, so help me God.

I just felt that I don't post enough in NSB and thought I'd go one further and start a thread.

Tell you what inspired it (if you can call such a lame thread "inspired")... I was looking at CITA's sig and Byrd looks HUGE in his upperbody there. So I was thinking... why hasn't he got a punch? Bone density? Not sitting on his punches? Not enough torque movement?

    Ah, Hell, I dunno.

But no, I agree with Jabs - the thread DOES suck.

Check this, his last real tough opponents were the Klitschko's. He gets beaten up by Vitali all night, until Vitali quits on his stool with an injury. Then Byrd has the balls to say that boxing is a hurt sport and brags he stopped Klitschko. Of course, the press hurt his as well because Klitschko is not an American fighter. Lets keep it real. Its hard for the American press to get behind a fighter who comes from behind the Iron Curtain, even some 17 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Byrd has never entertained the idea of fighting Vitali again.

His next move was a fight with younger Wladmir Klitschko, and this fight was never really close. We all wondered for years why Byrd never got the attention of the public, why Byrd was never seen as The Great American Hope. And on that night, we all found out. After being dropped 2 times by the younger Klitschko and losing a lopsided decision, he derided the German fans and claimed that the gloves were tampered with. Very classy .

After beating on an Evander Holyfield with an AARP card for the vacant IBF title, he barely escapes with his life against a very mediocre Fres Oquendo. He then brags about getting of the canvas against Jameel McCline, perhaps the most ridiculously overhyped big guy since Primo Carnera. Or Shannon Briggs or Michael Grant, I dunno. Then he waltzes with Davarryl Williamson and puts coke addict **********s to sleep with his inactivity.

Amazingly, he fits all this action into a one fight a year schedule. Any questions?

        awesome post

I agree with what somone wrote earlier, if Byrd could punch he wouldn't be who he is. Chris Byrd will never be marketable, people wanna see destroyers like Mike Tyson or pretty boys like DLH.

You all have to understand that boxing is a business and the most popular fighters are the ones who make money and get fame. Tyson, Gatti, DLH, Tito, etc.

Howevever in a metaphor I like to use alot, it likes music and musicians. You know that pop and rap **** is being passed off for talent when classical guitar players or classic symphonies are true musicans but they don't get the credit or fame, becasue rap and pop sell.

Just becasue something is not popular doesn't make it bad!!!

What makes him appeal with you so much though, CITA? You just admire him as a purist? Or something else?

And Scappy... yeah, I really do hate this thread to bits now. I almost wish I was two people just so I could slag myself off for making it.

            In fact, here we go:

I like the fact that he is a purist and especially a defensive wizard, well he used to be. I like all types of fighters and all kinds of styles. But as a boxer I enjoy wathcing Chris do his thing, you just see how truly talented he is and that he has a great knack for avoiding shots.

I also think its cool how he is an undersized HW champion who takes on guys up to 70 lbs bigger than himself.

The words Chris Byrd and marketability do not belong in the same sentence together.

I listen to metal actually ***. But I have the utmost respect for true musicans not ****ing rappers or pop stars who can't write their own songs.
