CIR will be used on all samples for Marquez/Bradley

Juan Manuel Marquez says he's happy to use USADA for extra drug testing, but believes Timothy Bradley is showing fear ahead of their October 12 HBO pay-per-view main event. Bradley has threatened to pull out of the fight if USADA or VADA aren't in charge of testing. Promoter Bob Arum wants to pay the Nevada commission to collect the samples, which will then go to a WADA lab.
In short, it's a mess that will likely be resolved, and if it's not, there are issues all over the place. Marquez is ****ing it up, though, saying that Bradley is showing his fear of the fight:
"Bradley is just reflecting the fear that he is feeling. I would like to do the examinations with USADA, but I am not going to fall into this game. He is the one who needs this fight. The most important victory of my career - I already achieved it [against Pacquiao], but [Bradley] is becoming arrogant. We are ready to get tested. He wants to do it with VADA....I prefer to do it with USADA. I have never tested positive. I do not know why Bradley is [talking the way he is]," Marquez said.
At this point, we're just over two months from fight night and nobody has done any serious drug testing at all. Arum says he wants Nevada to do the testing -- even paying extra for that to happen -- because VADA and USADA don't have any authority to hand out punishments, but it certainly seems to me that this could be worked around. With either organization, one would think that a contract could be signed with the commission, where they would handle the testing, and punishments would be handed out by the commission in the case of a failed test.
I think there's definitely at least some conflict of interest in the commission handling the collection; I'm not calling Nevada dishonest or saying this would happen, but any state commission is also in a way a promoter, as the event is going to bring money into their state and their venue.
Anyway, this is quite the ordeal so far. There seems at least an outside shot that this fight will actually get scrapped, which would suck, since it's a good one.Comment

Of course, he can manipulate them easier than VADA or USADA.Comment

Firstly I took a quote from the article that you provided yesterday, I did more research and I still didn't see anything that changes what JMM said, He prefers USADA but would do VADA if that's Bradley wants, frankly I admire JMM for saying that because he is more of a name than Bradley and he could have told him to piss of, JMM is the A side and he was still willing to accept a demand from the B side in Bradley... I applaud him for that. You say that, yet Marquez in the thread you posted said he wants USADA,and he would be tested by VADA if Bradley would bend to his weight stipulation..Once Marquez said that he would test with VADA while making a demand about a weight stipulation he made the weight issue and the VADA testing one in the same thing..
I don't believe Arum had ever used either tbh, which is why the fighters had to be on the same page..If both Bradley and Marquez was on the same page,Bob would not have to intervene..There just would have been double testing..Comment

Testing once again is for both fighters..A side B side is completely irrelevant dude..If Marquez told Bradley to piss off we'd be in the same boat we are in right now, with Bob intervening..Marquez unreasonable demand like I said in a since was him telling Bradley to piss off..Him saying he'd do VADA but wants Bradley to bend to his weight stipulation is the direct reason Bradley turned it down..Firstly I took a quote from the article that you provided yesterday, I did more research and I still didn't see anything that changes what JMM said, He prefers USADA but would do VADA if that's Bradley wants, frankly I admire JMM for saying that because he is more of a name than Bradley and he could have told him to piss of, JMM is the A side and he was still willing to accept a demand from the B side in Bradley... That's what I got from that Article,it's also the reason Marquez looks a lil funny right now..I would have admired Marquez had he said, yes I'll do testing esp because Bradley is willing to do the testing I want as well..Him asking for an unreasonable demand is where the problems came in and why there is a dark cloud over his head as well..Comment

VADA was never under the contract, thats what Bradley went on and chose on his own. What difference does it make now? CIR testing is being done and they don't need to do it under VADA because NSAC is getting it done under WADA protocal. The only reason it seems that Marquez is not doing VADA is because of Heredias beef with Conte.Testing once again is for both fighters..A side B side is completely irrelevant dude..If Marquez told Bradley to piss off we'd be in the same boat we are in right now, with Bob intervening..Marquez unreasonable demand like I said in a since was him telling Bradley to piss off..Him saying he'd do VADA but wants Bradley to bend to his weight stipulation is the direct reason Bradley turned it down..

Well, it happened after the fact because Nevada only really does post fight drug tests. (Sometimes they also collect samples if a press conference is done in Vegas, which I believed happened for Martinez/Chavez) Otherwise I don't think they have the budget to fly over to every fighters's training camp to test them pre-fight.
Plus, if the NSAC is really in Arum's pocket, they can't punish him all they want. Suspending the fighters mean less fights for the fighters and less money for Arum.Last edited by DoktorSleepless; 08-11-2013, 03:37 AM.Comment
