    Are diuretics really PEDs?

I notice some people see actions taken against a fighter for taking a diuretic, to make weight because they were unable to. This of course is an unnatural way to lose weight since diuretics cause them to lose fluids through urine.

Wouldn't these drugs just sap them of life, instead of enhancing their performance?

Would you say that it enhanced your performance to drop weight?

Diuretics are often not only used to lose weight, look it up. They are also used as a masking agent.

It can make you pass 6 litres of urine a day, and paralyze water intake. Useful if other PED drugs such as steroids need to be passed out of your system and a urine test (not a blood test) is the only drug detection measure used as is the case in most state commissions.

From the website of a doping prevention agency "Masking agents are compounds that are taken with the purpose of hiding or "masking" the presence of specific illegal drugs that are screened for doping testing. Masking agents have the potential to impair or conceal the banned substance in the urine. Diuretics can be regarded as "masking" agents due to the dilution of the urine, which results in lower levels of the banned substance being excreted from the body."

They also have pretty nasty side effects like Kidney and Heart failure.

Interesting actually. Back in the day I knew some folk on probation and had to take urine tests from their probation officers, of course they loved to smoke marijuana. What did they do? Drink tons of water hours before the test and mask the flushed urine with a vitamin pill you can get at any local vitamin/nutrition store.

Aside from the masking issue, I would argue that your size is an advantage in a boxing match. A diuretic can allow you to temporarily drop more weight than would be natural for the weigh-in, and then rehydrate for the fight. Therefore I don't see an issue with describing them as PEDs - diuretics are drugs which can enhance an aspect of your performance (ring weight)

It terms of leaving the fighter weakened or drained, trainers have plenty of experience in managing the dehydration-rehydration process in such a way as to minimise or negate such effects and should be expected to know how far they can push it with the individual fighter.

                    Well let's see.

If let's say Rigo used it and was caught. Let's say it helped him lose 8 lbs. Would he do well at 130?

If you can't legitimately make weight, then move up.

Same goes for Chavez Jr. He is slow as hell and IMO his size and power is not that much at 168.
