Why else would he constantly seek these type of fights and continue to fight in a way that gets him hit? He loves it and he loves a good scrap.
It 's hard to go against your assessment since you hare using the name of a very favourite fighter I had many years ago Nicolino Locche. I am inclined to agree with your comment that what he loves is the excitement etc. When young, whenever I got into a give-and-take scrap it was exhilarating, even though I wasn't in love with being hit hard on the nose. I felt the same after a vigorous tussle for the ball in a rugby match in which I was by far the smallest (but toughest) lad on the team, playing at scrum half.

Toney is an obvious one, Chisora and definitely Froch come to mind of the top of my head (thought about it for literally a few seconds and replied)

            We'll see
Rigo definitely could be a good shout.

Khan always talked big avoided Breidis Prescott like the plague wouldn't fight him under ANY condition, and I believe that it had a negative effect on his career. Khan had a super-inflated opinion of himself and only wanted fights with HUGE paydays. Prescott deserved the fight.

Ricky Hatton did the same thing to Junior Witter, who followed him around claiming a fight but Hatton ignored him, even though Witter was World Champ for 2-3 years. It seems he didn't like him..........

Of the four fighters on your list I think only Matthysse truely has the qualities you laid out.Wright was ok but it could be very hard for fighters to get a fight with him because he over valued himself and often demanded more money than he was worth. Cotto is ok too but he is pretty careful about who he fights and where he fights them and at what weight. Cotto fought some tough guys but he fought some guys that did not deserve a shot at the title.Mayorga and Margarito were not anywhere near top 10 contenders when he fought them in defense of his 154 pound title. He usually only fights in the garden. He tried to force Margarito to fight him at 150 when he was the 154 pound champ and they settled on a catchweight of 153. Hagler never defended his title against such poor opponents. Ward will fight anybody but it's usually in Califonia and not on neutral ground. Rios is truely a fight anybody anywhere for any reasonable amount of money type of guy. Mares and Rigo are the same way. Trout, Molina, Lara, Smith and Angula are 154 pounders that always seem ready to fight anybody. In fact there are lots of fighters today who fit your definition of a throwback fighter. There has always been some ducking and dodging going on in boxing no matter how far you go back in history. It's nothing new.

Those guys were not they type of guys to be ducking or dodging anyone, they showed up to fight night in and night out. They don't have to be ATG like the ones I mentioned those were just examples. but Didn't matter if they won or lost they fough whoever the fans or the #1 contenders or the sanctioning bodies wanted. Those are the kind of fighters I always loved to watch. Who in your opinion are todays "throwbacks". I'd have to go with :
                    Ward
                    Cotto
                    Matthyse
                    Winky Wright
Sorry to soil both of your troll attempt threads, but this conversation is moot, it's not the fighters, its the promotors and the business aspect of the sport, troll that if you want.

There's no such thing as a throwback fighter. It's just a word used by nostalgic morons who want to believe the old days were better.
