Bulgarian heavyweight Kubrat Pulev (17-0, 9KOs) is a man on a mission. On August 24th in Schwerin, Germany - Pulev will face veteran Tony Thompson (38-3, 26KOs) in an IBF final eliminator. The winner will receive a mandatory shot at IBF/WBO/WBA/IBO champion Wladimir Klitschko (60-3, 51KOs), who faces Pulev's stablemate, Alexander Povetkin, on October 5th.

Both of Thompson's career defeats were against Klitschko. During a recent appearance on ATG Radio, Wladimir picked Thompson to beat Pulev.

What's so great about Pulev? I watched a highlight video of him and he's good but not great...

He's sharp and powerful for a heavyweight. He's been out for a year however, the comparatively active Thompson is a tough test.

I dont think his power is that much but hes strong and durable with excellent stamina. lacks in speed however. hes good but not great. I put him on the level of a chageav. solid all around but nothing special

pretty good comparison with the chagaev comment. pulev doesnt seem to be a real big puncher but he has a lot of late-round stoppages so he definitely carries the power he does have into the later rounds.

him and thompson is a pick em fight. will probably go the distance

We will find out for certain just how good he is against Thompson, who we've come to find out is a real truth-finder. Tony probably would have held titles in weaker eras. If Pulev can dispatch him in impressive fashion, then he is the most legitimate threat to emerge yet to Wlad's reign.

Id have slightly favored tt 3 or 4 years ago but I just dont think his stamina and legs will hold up over the long haul. I like pulev by late stoppage

Pulev has looked good against the Dimitrenkos and Ustinovs of the the world, but he's jumping up a level this time. Not sure who wins this, but I'll start paying attention if he beats Tony the Tiger.

Name a weaker era? The only remotely close era was the larry holmes era and larry would have gave Tony Thompson the business. And Rocky Marciano probably would have laid him out.

It is a good test for Pulev though who gets a lot of hype for somebody who nobody was even talking about last year at this time and hasnt fought since.
