Promoter Peter Rivera of Puerto Rico Best Boxing has confirmed BoxingScene.com's recent report that WBO super featherweight champion Roman "Rocky" Martinez (27-1, 16KOs) is leaning away from fighting Miguel Angel "Mikey" Garcia - and switching his focuse to possible fights with Yuriorkis Gamboa and International Boxing Federation (IBF) champion Argenis Mendez.

Mendez (21-2, 11 KO's) will defend his crown on the 23rd of August at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York against Arash Usmanee. Gamboa does not have a fight in line, and Mikey Garcia is coming back in November. Rivera plans to discuss Martinez's future at the WBO convention in Budapest, Hungary - taking place from August 26th to the 30th.

This sounds like when Danny Garcia wanted more money to fight Matthysse. Rocky Martinez is not on the same level as Garcia however. Ever since the Burgos fight, his handlers know his career is living on borrowed time. They know he gets obliterated vs Garcia and outclassed by Gamboa. I don't know much about Argenis Mendez but if he's a good champion, I'm sure he defeats Martinez as well. If none of these matchups pan out then give Burgos a rematch.

Mikey Garcia is not a big name but Roman Martinez is a household name.

Last time I checked, they fought on the undercard of Mikey vs Salido fight, and then Mikey was showcased again with JuanMa, but somehow he's not known tho.

The only time Martinez was a headliner was against Ricky overseas, lame excuses from Rocky's promoter.
