    Diego Chaves potential

Could a properly trained Chaves be a top 10 fighter today in his weight class? He was hanging on with Thurman based on talent alone.

Absolutely he could. I believe that he came very close to beating Thurman. I saw several punches thrown with KO written all over them that missed Thurman's beard by a whisker. If he had connected it would have been a short night and Chaves would be a budding star just like that. I think the loss will actually make him a better fighter now.

I think he can get to top 10 pretty easy without much change at all, 147 is soft and he put on a good performance against what will be a very highly ranked guy going forward. All he has to do is beat schleps for a year or so and he will be ranked.

If he wants to do more than that yea he should find a real trainer, and put in hard work on his game while beating said schleps building a solid foundation to do better work from.

I thought he looked much better than Abregu in his first couple of US fights

What's weird is that his brother (his trainer) told him "You have to fight, You didn't come here to party" in the corner during the 8th or 9th round. He might of been partying the days leading to the fight and that only happens when you have a ****ty training camp and not take what's in front of you serious enough, that plus he gassed out and got put down by a body shot in the latter part of the fight which is another sign of lack of training.

The guy is still only 25 years old and it's pretty marketable since he can easily be promoted as an " exciting fighter with KO power like the other argies". I personally enjoy those type of tensed fights at a slow pace like what we saw in Thurman vs Chaves and hope he gets his **** together and comes back and gives us some wars.

i saw his previous fights and he was almost out on his feet as well and should have lost.

            his footwork is terrible.

hes not that good. his footwork is horrible, hes rather slow, hes a decent boxer with pop but what put him that last fight was his power and ability to take advantage of thurman's wildness.

No, I didn't see anything that impressed me. Hes got power, a reasonable jab when he uses it & a tight guard but I didn't see anything that really impressed me and felt he was very limited and predictable in his approach.

He can probably get some decent wins on his power alone but I feel he anybody with any real boxing ability and a half decent beard will soundly outbox him.

Hes just too slow and crude. Wouldn't mind seeing him against Maidana actually, I feel they would match up really well and that would be brutal whilst it lasted.

Sure why not, I can see him giving problems to a few of the top 10. Maidana, Paulie, Guerrero. Especially if he works on his boxing skills, because he looked confused when Thurman adjusted. Another point of criticism would be his footwork , i feel he would be more effective if he moved some , rather than being a heavy plodder. He can make some noise though, Thurman was just better.

He can be a very good fighter with some fine tuning, he is just so raw at this point

I can see why paulie avoided him
