Neither guy was a legit opponent for a guy at Floyd's level. At Floyds level, you only expect him to fight other p4p opponents at or near his weight class. Especially when you consider Floyd only fights once a year. It's not like either opponent was a stay busy fight.

Victor and Robert have never been considered p4p.

I always thought Guerrero wasn't a credible opponent. Ortiz's power and size made him a more credible opponent for Mayweather at the time, and he was the first person to beat Berto, even though I thought you could make a case for Collazo beating Berto. Ortiz's upset of Berto was enough to make me forgive him for the Maidana fight.

Even though Guerrero impressed me in his win over Berto he isn't a real WW. He's a guy that got beat the **** up by Salido at 126, where he racked up all his ko's. He didn't even have much power at 135. Then he jumped up to 147 and looked like crap against Aydin IMO. Hindsight is 20/20 and after Ortiz's losses to Floyd and Lopez, his win over Berto just made Berto look even worse. I'll give Guerrero some credit though he's done alright considering he's not a real 147 lber.

Guerrero was Floyd's mandatory before the Berto fight.

And no, a guy at Floyd's level does not need tune up fights, he's been doing this his whole life.

I think you can get a tune-up after you have been gone for over a year.... I got no problem with any fighter that has been out for over a year to get a tune-up

I was excited for Floyd-Ortiz because Berto at the time was a fresh win and Ortiz beat him in an exciting fashion. Ortiz was a huge welterweight, young, and had a respectable punch. I was fine with this fight. Guerrero was coming off an Aydin win, which I have no idea why people were hyping up, and then the Guererro-Berto fight might as well have never existed for me because it was more of an illegal wrestling match than a boxing match. I didn't learn anything new about Guerrero in that fight. Overall, he was a meh opponent. Floyd is fighting more than once this year for once so whatever.

Most wins get "exposed" sooner or later because the vast majority of fighters aren't able to hang at the top level for too long so I'm not too hung up on that. But I do think Karass proved in his last two fights that he's a better welterweight than Guerrero.

Because the "anyone else" that you're referring to are the people that Floyd should be fighting.

I agree on Guerrero, it's only bad if it's his one fight of the year. As a "tuneup" it's okay. Ortiz was basically striking while the iron is hot, off his sole good win. He had shown mental weakness more than once prior, that's disaster vs Floyd. But his punchers chance was better than average. He was probably the best GBP welter at the time, though.
