oh yeah, he beat ken buchanan... WOOOOOOOOOW!
hands of stone? nope....stoned more like, hes fookin trippin on fmj being ordinary at or in any era.
    what a complete ****.
i dont even think the great srr could have even touched fmj, boxing has evolved and those greats (excluding mr im stoned) were not like fighters are today in terms of technical skill.
ray robbo had modern day skill but, he lost too and fmj? everybody knows he unbeaten.
sure, these fellahs were very tough and resiliant, even the refs of those days seldom stopped fights but, if any of them were pitched against even just decent fighters of nowadays with modern refs.....well..it would be early nights and if mr stoned were in his so called prime now, there would be "no mas" in every fight against any of the elite today because he was **** then and wouldnt stand a chance now.
    ordinary....what a ****.
    Uh oh, lmao.

But no way you would be making 20 million (or whatever) for fighting Robert Guerrero or Ortiz. You would've had to face one of the Fab Four:

Duran - probably the only foe Floyd could beat by UD. Duran would definitely make him earn it though.

SRL - toss up. I think Ray would've adjusted to Floyd's adjustment and break the latter's defense eventually to a SD.

Hearns - using his reach and speed, Tommy would've fought tall and jabbed the crap outta Floyd, occasionally finding a home for that cannon right. Tommy by TKO or Floyd quits on his stool with closed eyes.

Hagler - too big, too strong, too tough. Floyd never comes close to signing a fight contract.
      Good post.

He says Mayweather would have been "just another guy in the bunch."

Duran is not impressed with Mayweather's level of competition, stating that there is no comparison between the top contenders of today and the fighters who ruled from junior welterweight to middleweight 30 years ago. Duran said Mayweather should have a loss on his record from the first fight with Jose Luis Castillo and he scored the fight with Oscar De La Hoya as a draw. [Click Here To Read More]
It's true. I've been saying it for years, and most on here don't listen. To any serious posters out there, who actually come here to discuss boxing and not troll or bait and wallow in ignorance, don't listen or respond to "floyd fans" who claim his unmatched greatness, chances are I am a bigger floyd fan than them and I am the first to tell you outside of this era he isn't anything special. It has to do with the state of the sport, and young children and or non-knowledgeable fans won't understand this.

Anyone with common sense would realize that comparing someone of one era with theirs is ******ed. Any great fighter would be great in any era. Its not their skills that makes them great or their speed or power. Its their will to be great their determination. While styles and rules and a lot of things change what doesn't change is greatness. Floyd would be great in their era and they would be great in floyds. You cant say Floyd would be the Floyd of today if he was fighting in the 70s and 80s. that's nonsense. Floyd would have to be adjusted towards those lines. Which means he would be more battle tested been up against guys more his level. his style would be slightly different. Its like ray robinson saying oh duran would have been lunch meat in my era. Old guys always feel their era is better than the one before and one after. It is what it is. Floyd haters will take this and run with it. FLoyd supporters will take this and try to defend it. Its an opinion there is nothing to defend. All Floyd can do is continue to win and take care of his family. The next batch will come this gen will say the same about them and it will be a never ending cycle. What can you do? get a time machine? Floyd can beat everyone including many Martinez and duran would say the same thing lenorard would say the same thing. That's what men do. All you can do is fight and win your fights and keep it moving.

He has losses to the greatest fighters he's ever fought. They include Leonard, Hagler, Hearns and Benitez. Yet, somehow, he's rated highly above all of them, by most people.

I can understand that he's got a few good wins at lightweight over the likes of Buchanan, De Jesus and Kobayashi, but the rest are either paper champions or average journeymen.

How he's so highly rated is beyond me.

Mayweather is good for his era how would he of faired in the 70's we will never know. I don't think he would of been able to handle Sugar Ray Leonard but the others would of been been 50-50 - I also had De la hoya v Mayweather a draw and that was a De La Hoya way past his best.
