Comments Thread For: Brook Sees Senchenko as Last Step Before a Title Shot

Sheffield welterweight Kell Brook will return to his home city in October to face the man who ended Ricky Hatton's career. Last week Brook's promoter Eddie Hearn announced that the unbeaten 27-year-old will face Vyacheslav Senchenko on October 26 at Sheffield Arena. Brook's last appearance in the Steel City came in October last year when he knocked out Hector Saldivia in an IBF eliminator, but a string of injuries stopped him fighting Devon Alexander for the world title.

He remains the IBF's number-one ranked challenger to Alexander's belt and returned to action after a nine-month lay-off with an impressive win over Carson Jones in Hull two weeks ago. Ukrainian veteran Senchenko has lost just one of his 33 career fights and is known to British fans after stopping Hatton in his comeback-from-retirement scrap in Manchester last November. Since then he has not fought again but is slated to meet Carlos Adan Jerez next month.

Beating Paulie Malignaggi's leftovers isn't going to impress anyone.

Just pointing out that Paulie didn't spark Senchenko, he blew up his eye until he couldn't see. Brook shouldn't be fighting the likes of Senchenko, but the "Oh Paulie stopped him" line of reasoning isn't the way to point it out.

Everyone says Brook should step up the opposition. There is no doubt that this is his toughest fight.

He should come through it fairly easily but it's all about levels, you can't go from an injury, to Carson Jones in a tune up, to the top guys in the world.

Having said that this really has to be the final stepping stone for Brook, he needs to deal with this guy and then properly step up. It's now or never for me.

Brook has to be hoping Alexander beats Khan in December cos if Khan wins he ridiculously gets a Mayweather shot.

brook most likely has the worst resume for any main stream fighter

I would say that guy from china that top rank is cashing out on is a great comparison of talents/hype job and the type of guys both will fight forever

as soon as either steps up to fight a b class fighter (both have fought c and lesser fighters thus far) they will get exposed big time

This fight is just more needed experience for Brook. I hope he uses it wisely, and keeps his left hand a little bloody higher!
