Comments Thread For: Edwin Rodriguez Eyes Ward, Froch, Kessler Bouts

Undefeated super middleweight contender Edwin "La Bomba" Rodriguez's (24-0) name is still buzzing after his first round destruction of the normally durable Denis Grachev earlier this month in Monte Carlo.

With the victory Rodriguez has propelled his name towards the top of the division. However, Rodriguez knows that there are still many names above him and on a recent edition of BoxingScene Radio, he said that he is willing to face any of the division's elite.

"I think it is a strong division. I think I can do a lot. I think there are a lot of big names that I can do well against. Names like the WBC champ Sakio Bika who just won. Guys like Lucian Bute, Carl Froch, Mikkel Kessler. There are a lot of guys. Andre Ward is there. There are so many names out there," Rodriguez explained.

Rodriguez may be the best opponent available for Ward at the moment, he should go for it now. Ward's got his eye set on JCC Jr. and Froch for 2014, plus with a potential Golovkin showdown he'll be pretty busy, now is the time to make this fight happen.

He is not ready for ward and has already acknowledged it in the article. Why should he go after ward? Ward is the best in the division - right - maybe he should fight the likes of the Dirrel bros - james degale - sakio bika - george groves - stevenson - carl froch - etc... its like people read a article and forget what they just read - he is not ready and needs more fights !

People like to crown Ward like he's the #2 p4p fighter in the world but to me Ward is more vulnerable now then ever. In this game it's not about what he did last year or 2 years ago It's about where he's at right now, and right now he's been hella INACTIVE.. Ward is suppose to be in his prime and he doesn't sell tickets so what he should be doing is taking a page out of Golovkin's book and fighting 3-4 times a year. Fight anybody! Just fight! I have seen little of Rodriguez but I think he gives Ward all he can handle right now. Inactivity kills careers, unless your name is Floyd Mayweather Jr. who has been quite active of late himself..

Ward just needs to fight, stop taking acting like a diva and fight. Just to stay sharp more then anything else. Beating a drained Dawson isn't really all that impressive imo.

He's coming off a bad injury.

          Ward is normally pretty active.

He's not coming off a bad injury he's being a diva and trying to be his own promoter instead of just being a fighter. Ward had the same issue that Guerrero and Donaire had and they both jumped right back in the ring(donaire fighting in Nov). Ward's been cleared to fight for months now..Ward fought once last yr and was fighting twice a year prior to that. That's only "pretty active" If your name is Floyd Mayweather. Ward should be fighting 3 times a year minimum..Won't be long before Golovkin has a better resume then Ward

Well, I am one of those people that would like Rodriguez to have at least 2 more fights before he goes there. I would like to see him against Bute and Froch and if he gets past both of them then I think he should go for the gold. And if that doesn't work just stay active...keep fighting and winning because that is the recipe for success when it's all said and done.

Ok so he didn't have a tear on his shoulder that required surgery and 10 months out or was that just a figure of my imagination?

He fought once in 2012 and was injured in the fight. He fought twice in 2011/10 and four times in 09 and three times in 08. Add to that, he's cleaned out his division which meant He had to go and look for fights in other weightclasses. On top of that, he's having issues with his promoter. On top of the other top, he's having issues with his broadcaster.

I dislike Ward as much as the next guy, but even a crippled ****** can see he's not having an easy time finding credible fights.

Ok did you really just go back to 2008 and 2009? If you read my original post it clearly says this is not about what Ward did last year or 2 years ago let alone 4 or 5 years! It's about the present time. That means now. Ward hasn't been active. I don't know where you heard Ward's injury would take 10 months to heel when it was 4-6 months.. Ward has never cleaned out anything including tickets to his fights. I still respect Ward but your making excuses for the man. I just say he needs to start being more active or fans are not going to want to see him or he'll end up losing to someone he normally wouldn't as a result of his inactivity. Wards needs to start fighting 3-4 times a year If he wants to stay on top. period. Can't be top p4p fighter If your only going to fight once or twice a year

Rodriguez' own promoter says that he doesn't want to put him in with Ward just yet. Smart move because he's not ready.

Sakio Bika would be a good fight for him though.
