Rigo just had his 1st big fight, and he stunk out the joint
he won clearly, but he failed to capture anybody's imagination
he's at a make or break point now that he's champ at 122
do something with it, or bore audiences in small ass auditoriums
Im a big Ward fan and he has not provided any more (or less) excitement than Rigo. Ward was exciting in destroying Dawson but in general I like watching him for things that are more subtle than knockouts. Rigo can be exciting against guys like Kennedy (who is no dawson) but put forth a technical performance against other fighters. People exaggerate when they talk about certain fighters being boring.

That makes me uncomfortable too as I stated in the OP. I think that if Anything Arum might have soured them on Rigo. I wouldn't expect them to come right out and say they want/don't want the guy and thats why Bob might be able to play it off as such. Good point.

The denial is what gets me. You don't need to take anyone's word. Just hear the non-stop booing. They're not anyone's friends and relatives here. Nobody knows them. They're the ones paying for these fights. Without them you won't even get to see any boxing at all.

Match rigo up with some pressure fighter in his next couple fight if you think he is so boring. I doubt it would be boring.

He's also American (a local draw, rare!), and is a welter titleholder. Welter is always on TV. 122 is never on HBO until Donaire crossed over from Showtime/Pinoy Power

Im was going through my HBO go app and realized HBO has had no issues bringing back plenty of guys (some that I am a fan of) that bring less excitement than Rigo did in his last fight. So why is Rigo a target all of a sudden? Is this punishment for beating a top fighter HBO has been showcasing lately? The article up about HBO now trying to make a fight for Rigo makes feel like they are making it seem like they are doing the guy a favor. He earned a spot on network tv with his performance. In fairness I'm not completely sure that this is all HBO or Top Rank using influence against the guy. I recall an interview being posted here that showed BOB Arum bashing Rigo right after the fight and Rigo calling him out on it. So is HBO "throwing up" every time his name is mentioned or did his promoter sour them on him in effort to prove a point. I just don't get it. If I was Rigo's promoter I would be talking about how he had such a virtuoso performance. Seems to me that few people actually have this great boxers best interest in mind and its a real shame. Thoughts??

Rigo needs to attract fans, simple as that. The masses want to be entertained, and it's their/our right to spend their/our money elsewhere if the fighter is not providing it.

              END OF STORY.

agreed on this one, Alexander the twat is a waste of time now
before, HBO was right to get excited about the guy
he was a youngster they could groom to be a star then
after the Kotelnik, Bradley, Lucas, and Bailey debacles?
surprised he has any deal at all now, he's just getting fed to Khan
but at the very least, it's fun watching him get beaten up

The guy n my sig doesnt draw fans either but never had issues getting a fight on the network. Bottom line I guy of Rigo's status shouldn't be getting that kind of treatment coming off that type of win. He elevated himself but some people make it seem like he still has not done anything. The fans the went to Radio city packed into that small venue because they knew that this was going to be Donaire's toughest test to date. Matched right there will be interest. And it has potential to build.

Ward isn't a thriller, yet still is moreso than Rigo, and by far
not getting this thread dude, boring is boring
nobody is saying Rigo's not world class or not a legit champ
they're saying he's fucking BORING, and they're right
he can put on an exciting performance? great let's see him do it
when he does, he'll get both the respect and the love from everybody
until then? respect his skills, but fuck him, he's not entertaining

He's got a laundry list of things going against him, and look how well he's done for himself. Got an early title shot, good TV dates despite non TV friendly style. 12th fight a shot at p4p Donaire, for 750k! p4p Mares just won his 3rd title for 1/2 that. It took Donaire years of toiling to reach that.

That's probably all there is to it, Rigo's purse demands are beyond what HBO wants to pay, given the comp available at the weight. If he'll fight for 250k, HBO would probably welcome him.
