Comments Thread For: Zou Shiming Has Big Dreams of Fighting in America

Zou Shiming, 32, and with only one professional fight behind him, is dreaming of making it big in the United States.

Zou, who won two Olympic Games gold medals and is a three-time amateur world champion, takes on Mexico's Jesus Ortega in Macau on July 27.

He intends to become the first Chinese boxer to make a name for himself in a sport that was once banned in his country.

Zou’s promoters, Top Rank, are hoping the flyweight's fame in China will open the door to a lucrative and untapped market. But the 2008 and 2012 Olympic champion is looking in the opposite direction.

"When I started boxing, I saw on television that a lot of fights were held in the US. So it's my dream to fight there," he said on Wednesday.

"China is paying more attention to boxing now. I will start by fighting in Macau or Asia, and then, I hope, I will have the chance to fight in the US." [Click Here To Read More]

      This.

But if he comes to the US he should fight out of California, would get a ton of asian support here.

          He's what...32?
He just started his career and already getting paid half a million. The only reason for him to go stateside is to improve his "legacy" and bring international attention to himself.
Good for him if he does, but I doubt he'll fight anybody of note that'll interest people in the states.

That's true. Posts like this are what remind me never to turn pro regardless of how good I get. (my age)

He's already 32 and making STACKS for his 4 round fights. He should continue to make money in China. If he wants to come to the US it should be with intentions of going on a shopping spree, not to fight here. He won't make as much.

I'd say he's just paying lip service to some question he was asked, you'd have to imagine that fighting in front of 300 million of his own people in China >* for him

He'll keep fighting bums in China for money. He's getting 500k for his second pro bout when he wasn't able to KO his first opponent, who btw, was a bum.
