It is wrong that he didn't get punished somehow, but that's the risk when the prosecution sets the bar too high with what they charge a person with.

He should have gotten something, he did instigate the confrontation, even though Trayvon might have started the physical fight.

Like posted, there was a window of time where Zimmerman lost sight before the confrontation. It's hard to believe Zimmerman caught up to Martin unless Martin wanted him to, because he wanted to know who the hell the jerk following him was.
