Ha, To people who think cotto was just hype are delusional and honestly kinda idiotic..
Cotto was a great fighter and got ruined by margarito.
he may not have been on the level of hopkins, floyd and manny, but he was on the same level as say ike, winky,
Margarito ruined him and manny really put the nail in the coffin...
I dont see a similarity to GGG
GGG reminds me of kosta tszyu

he was not a 'great' fighter...he was a good fighter, solid B-level but not the elite type of killer that the Top Rank hype machine made him out to be
GGG is a straight up killer...will he be elite? time will tell but there is no similarity with Cotto other than they're both human beings with arms and legs
of Miguel Cotto? He seems like a fighter with all the positives of a 2007-08 prime Miguel Cotto with added punching power.
They're both technically-sound boxers with a slight neglecting of defense (Cotto moreso than GGG), they have/had that killer instinct, every punch hurts, knock people out with the left hook to the body, etc. They're also willing and eager to face anybody and everybody, which is the main similarity.
The only discrepancy I see is that GGG has just a good power jab, whereas Cotto's jab was straighter and shorter but also powerful. Cotto didn't have the one-shot power outside of his body shot, but GGG has that.
Obviously they have different stances, defensive styles, etc., but are similar enough that it's worth mentioning.
not at all. Cotto only stalks his opponents if they are totally below his level. GGG stalks his opponents...doesn't matter who it is.

Cotto was a A level fighter who will be in the hall of fame. I think it's ****** that people want to discredit him and call him protected. He's fought the absolute best in his era (Mayweather, Margarito, Pacquiao, Mosley, Trout, Judah, Clottey). Yes he didn't win them all but its funny when people cry about being protected. He went thru his era's "Murderers Row".
at the moment GGG is slightly overrated because of his offensive destructive power. Throughout history fans have gravitated towards destructive power punchers. The moment GGG loses fans will cry overrated and you guys know it's going to happen. WE can't honestly judge a fighter until about 10 years or so after he retires.
Think about the history of these offensive monsters. Foreman, Tyson, McClellan, Hearns...they all ended up losing and then the myth and legend of them sort of went away. Anyone can lose in the ring.
Anyways when I watch GGG he does remind me of Kostya Tsyzu with his pinpoint power punches along with the tenacity of JCC Sr.
