Sorry to keep quoting you today but this is a great post. It's a shame that one of the most skilled boxers on the planet isn't getting the exposure he deserves because he beat the media darling convincingly. It wasn't nice to witness Arum turn on him, then the Ring and other publications and now HBO just because he schooled their boy. You're right in that casual fans opinions can be influenced by this bull**** but I'm holding out hope that the most known and widely recognised best on the planet is a true master of the sweet science. Love him or hate him, casual fans may appreciate this side of the sport more thanks to Mayweather.

No worries at all, I just find it sad when I read or see how negative the boxing society is towards their own athletes, we tend to reward failure with excuses or in this case HBO or Arum are rewarding failure (Nonito donaire) and punishing a winner (Rigo), I would rather they say that Nonito brings more money and fans to the table etc

Boxing should be about excellence first, entertainment second. My main interest is to see who are the best fighters in the world, that alone excites me, wanting to see action is secondary.

However, people need to stop comparing Rigondeaux to Floyd. When Floyd had his first unification against Corrales, he took full advantage of it and really shined. You saw skills, athleticism AND action, this was a "wow" performance. Rigondeaux's performance against Donaire wasn't a "wow" performance.

But of course Rigondeaux should be back on HBO because he's one of the best.

Is there a book of rules on what it takes to be a "boxing fan"?

Lol, your whole argument is just laughable at this stage it is just all about how many asses you put in seats and how many viewers can you you get to their tv. Do you really think that people who watched Rigo were loved his pergormance but Merchant said he was boring so they are not going to watch him anymore. People want to be entertained and they choose not like Rigo because he has what most consider a boring style. Does it take skill to do what he does? Yes. Is it entertaining? Most would say not.

What's really sad is that a most of people supporting Rigo just don't want to admit that what Merchant is saying is just the plain truth. And most just do it just to keep up with this ****** front of being a "hardcore boxing fan".

This is exactly what's wrong with boxing today!! Not only do the best not fight the best but we get paper champs and promotional wars! It's a shame that a world class fighter like Rigo is getting this short stick while the guy he beat up is getting the praise...the same guy that threw less punches and got his face busted!! Then you wonder why the sport takes a hit...it's from all the political bs including bad judging that takes fans away!!
Btw when fighters engage Rigo puts them on their *ss

whats sad is people say he has a boring style. people want entertainment, they want knock outs and he has a 75% knock out ratio. A knock out is a knock out now matter how you shake it.

And your point is? Does it change the fact that Rigo can't sell **** and nobody wants to watch him fight.

Well what Merchant said isn't actually the truth. It's his opinion. It seems that you agree with him which is fine. Everyone enjoys a good barnburner, action packed fight but others like to watch technicians as well. It's not for everybody but it can be enjoyable to others. Some guys like the subtle things like feints, foot work, and things of that nature. I wouldn't say true boxing or hardcore fan but maybe broader fan. I do enjoy Rigo's fights. I understand where HBO is coming from but I'm sure there is a compromise somewhere. Merchant's words do hold influence as well. At the end of the day, people ultimately decide for themselves but positive words go a long way.
