But he clearly has a dry personality outside the ring.
    sure, it all adds up

    • You would be very hard pressed to find a credible P4P list that doesn't have Mayweather, Ward, JMM, and Wladimir in the top 5. And the only one that has somewhat of a crowd pleasing style is JMM. And JMM doesn't have a traditional crowd pleasing style. He's just been fortunate enough to have been matched against a lotta aggressive fighters and his defense is leaky enough that it complements his style perfectly to make for good fights.

IMO, Rigondeaux belongs in this group. Not only in style, but skill level. As a boxing purist, I'm outraged that this guy is basically being black-balled simply because he he's too good for more popular guys to compete with and too technically sound for uneducated fight fans to appreciate. And IMO any "fight fan" that isn't outraged that we're gonna be robbed of getting to see what may be the best fighter in the world simply because of politic needs to seriously evaluate whether they are an actual fight fight. Or simply a couch potato that gets to live out their tough guy fantasies watching other people batter each other.

it's not fair, but you gotta see it from HBO's pov... HBO is a business... too bad boxing isn't run like a league, where the best have to fight the best and a boring style doesn't mean you don't get airtime on HBO

Who the hell cares...GBP disrespected the hell out of Zab at the press conferences..all of them..don't see you bit-ching about that tho. The fact is Ward, Rigo and technical boxers by far and large don't provide enough "Ohhh shhhht moments" in their careers. They are beautiful to look at putting work in on their opponent but the casual fan doesn't pay for that. Who you think spends the most on boxing? The old faithful or the casual? If it was the faithful there wouldn't be marketing cause we'd watch anyway. The fact is the public loves a knockout more than a boxing lesson. Golovkin can box but he knows what gets him paid...knocking people out..cold. Same for Pacquaio. Same for Tyson. Same for a ton of other boxers historically...Hell Ali's entire career was built on putting on a show for the audience live just as much as fighting his opponent. In order to be a extremely successful technical fighter you either need an adverse story people connect to, a great charismatic attractive personality the public eats up, or be the villain. Now Andre, Rigo and them will have amazing careers but won't see nearly as much dough as they could or should because of it...part of the game.

Boxing is basically a cult sport nowadays that has probably between 350K-500K true, hardcore fans. And that is reflected in the PPV numbers that are done by everyone not named Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquaio. And that handful of fans are gonna tune in when a top guy is fighting, especially on regular HBO or Showtime. This **** with Rigondeaux is nothing but a scheme on the part of Bob Arum, with the help of HBO, to make everyone forget about this guy. Arum screwed up putting this guy in the ring with what could potentially have been his new golden goose. And he's not gonna take a chance of putting any of his other popular guys in with him. So they're basically gonna hide him until he becomes irrelevant.

I know right? I crap on certain boxers too but I also watch all their fights, HBO, Showtime, CBS, ESPN2...stream early on Saturdays for Euro fights, etc. It's kind of sad to see people say they could care less about fights because of a fighter's popularity or whatever. I think Broner is a joke.....have I missed any of his last 5 or 6 fights? Can't say that I have.

This would actually make sense if highest grossing fighter in the history of the sport wasn't a defensive, safety first, "boring" fighter.

Come on, HBO puts on no namers on undercards who don't impress. I'd take a masterclass boxing lesson from Rigo any day over some fat lub getting starched in a round or two because HBO wants to make a house boxer look better than he is.

I GUARANTEE you that if they are allowed to approach Showtime, Rigo will be headlining events immediately.
