Guess we'll see what Broners word is worth. He made a special point during his post fight interview with Jim Gray (after the Malignaggi fight) to say he was going to fight the fighter that the fans/people wanted him to fight the most. Like I said.... we'll see.
Maidana has always put it out front that he will fight the fighter that makes the most financial sense for him, this is nothing new. I can't recall the last interview I've seen/read of him being asked who he wanted to fight next, where he hasn't said 'whoever makes the most financial sense' and he 'wasn't going to take low money'. And, he's always stood firm about that during negotiations (esp. where he has been the mandatory). Even the fight with Khan (mandatory) ended up going to purse bid, in which he ended up making better money than what was originally offered. I doubt this fight will be any different, and IME Broners team will either have to accept a fair deal or vacate and move back down.
Atleast Showtime has shown a real interest, so there's no reason that both these fighters can't be made happy with the money on this fight. Again, we'll see what Broners word is worth at this point. I think the fans/people have made a pretty clear statement on wanting to see him fight Maidana.
It could be. But id call it a 50/50 fight. If Maidana is landing clean on the regular, we will learn something about Broner. This fight will probably be made before Garcia vs Matthysse.
I really like this fight. I think it gets made. I'm a fan of Maidana, I like Broner as well, but I got Broner by wide UD with Maidana having a few moments in the fight. Maidana doesn't present the angles, the elusiveness and boxing ability that Paulie brought to the ring. Maidana is going to be there to fight and he's coming for blood, that falls right into the hands of a fighter like Broner.
This is exactly how I see this fight. I have zero emotional ties to either fighter, and I don't really rate either of them that much but I can bet anyone that Broner wins this 10-2 rounds easily.
Maidana WILL KO Broner, Which Is Why Mayweather Wouldn't Fight Maidana!
Broner will get advised by Floyd, you don't want any part of Maidana. He is very heavy handed, and when he hits you, you stay hit. Floyd so did not want to fight Maidana, he fought Ortiz instead, who just got knocked out by Maidana. And now Marcos wonders why his phone isn't ringing.... Broner left 135 to avoid GAMBOA. He's not going that route either. Look... he couldn't hurt Paulie Mags... he's in trouble because when you take Maidana and Gamboa out of the mix... you have Matthysee, Garcia, Provodnikov, Rios, Alvarado, Peterson, Berto and Guerrero all of whom Broner can't beat and these guys come to fight, and carry knock out power in both hands.... Broner is in the same boat Bradley found himself... with a title and nobody he can beat, but some light handed tomato can.... or Paulie Mags, with 5 KO's.
