Just hope Danny can at least last 5 rounds. It's unfair these opponents can't handle his power long enough for Matthysse to at least get a decent workout
The fighters who did well against Danny were slick boxers. Lucas is not slick, he is a Pacquiao-style action fighter who lunges and he always sets up his right hand with forward momentum as he steps with his left foot. People are making unrealistic statements about the style matchup. They are concentrating on Danny's shítty technique and defense, but they overlook Danny's proven timing skills and counter-punching ability, especially effective against come-forward fighters in exchanges. Remember when everyone was saying how Danny would get dropped if he stood and fought Lucas? They clearly misunderstood the style matchup. Danny takes no gameplan into the ring. That might sound ******, but he watches his opponents' feet and identifies the movements they make before attacking. Show me some footage where Lucas Matthysse doesn't climb out into his left foot before unleashing the right hand. See, I don't believe he can make adjustments to stop telegraphing it so much, because that would nullify his power (he relies on full weight shifting). While Danny does load up on his looping hooks, he starts throwing them in anticipation of what follows his opponents foot movements. Basically, he's loaded up his hook before his opponent has gained momentum to unload their own power shot. That's why Lucas should take more of a reserved, counter-punching approach against Danny. If he doesn't vary his offense, he'll get ****** into fighting Danny's fight and get timed coming in.
Yeah they are still starry eyed over Matthyse knocking out Lamont Peterson... the guy who was knocked into another dimension by Victor Ortiz and knocked down by Tim Bradley
Tim Bradley
Tim Bradley
Tim Bradley was a power punching beast at 140. He knocked down or hurt everyone.
Okay, not quite true, but he did knock down or hurt a lot of fighters at 140.

I think the problem with Dannys style of counter punching in this fight is that he doesnt ever show the ability to avoid punches and come back with his own. Generally he takes them pretty flush and (to his credit) stays calm and fires with shots from unorthodox angles. His heavy hands, good timing and the fact that most arent expecting to get hit mean he generally will shake guys up.
The question in this fight is 'can he afford to take regular shots from Lucas Matthysse'? In my opinion, and the opinion of most others, the answer is no.
Another problem he will find is that LM, even when he sometimes throws himself off balance, has excellent reactions and subtle head movement in close. This allows him to take the sting off shots on the inside and lessens the damage he takes during the coarse of the fight. Against Garcia i believe he should be able to react to Garcia's, lets face it, pretty wide shots and either get out the way or limit their damage.
I actually think this will look pretty competitive over the first six or so rounds. But eventually the extra punishment Danny is taking compared to Lucas will show. After that it really depends on how well conditioned Garcia is (hopefully better than Judah fight!) and how good his chin is.

That kd wasnt even a legal blow. Peterson was dipping down and was hit on the back/top of his head and his knee touched the canvass. Bradley did hurt Peterson in that fight but that wasnt the punch that did it either. Its like saying Khan knocked down Peterson too. Officially he did score a kd but it wasnt legit.
